A brand new report has appeared online allegedly from an employee of Massive Entertainment, the developer of the upcoming The Division MMO, which claims that Ubisoft has forced the studio to downgrade some of the visual effects seen in the PC edition of the game, in order to not make the game look better than on PS4 or Xbox One.

    Consoles. Lmao.

Is Ubisoft getting some lucrative exclusivity dollars or something?

The question is, are the current gen consoles "shit"? I mean PS2/3 and Xbox/360 for about 2-3 years after launch was top hardware to work on. PS4/Xb0 since day 1 are like left behind . . . That this means we will get Ps5 / Xbox2 in next 2 years ? LOL
    This shit is crazy

Everything will be good when 4k screens become the norm. Then PC's can run their games at full resolution and consoles on 720p but they don't have to hide goodies for PC anymore.

Both Sony and MS went for low power solutions. I don't know how far that UMA and GPGPU tech can go, because that's what Sony was betting on.

Are those The Division videos and screenshots really in game in real machines? I mean, not super ultra high res previews or target renders?

Wasn't the first gameplay video we were shown running on a PC?

When I asked about that last year, someone here replied that the video was super-hi-res… multi sampled you would say?

Haven't had time to check all of the E3 stuff yet :/

yeah... maybe on a dev PC. It straight up isn't going to look that good on consoles.

    Colour me surprised.

There are so many factors beyond performance that causes this - anyhoo as Vilham said, it was inevitable.

I don't even know if you can call this a downgrade. The original E3 demo was more of a proof of concept. It's what they would have liked the final game to look like at the time, but it was made early in development. After E3 they got to work trying to create the game and match it to that concept trailer but obviously then came across the limitations of mapping that sort of detail across a whole, functioning game. This whole downgrade debate has come from them releasing that trailer at E3 and not explaining what it actually was, effectively trying to con people (deliberately or not) into thinking that it was real in-game footage when it was more of a glorified tech demo.

I hope in Ubi they're not complaining… what a surprise people pointing this out. Unless they are thinking "doesn't matter what they say, as long as they talk about it"

Most of the "downgrade" just looks like no direct lighting. Maybe it was just dark in the game. But of course you gotta get those views and outrage!
