Lol, guy is afraid to say they're using the Source engine. So silly.

easy for it to sound that way, but i'm pretty sure he's saying they've modified it so much that he considers it something other than source...

I'm out then What, why? I would rather see a whole team dedicating themselves to a SP or MP experience, than having to split their time to both SP and MP and typically when this happens either one or the other suffers big time, so in the end it ends up being just one more bulletpoint on the back of the case than a worthwhile experience for gamers.

No, it's not like I don't like MP or SP, I have a "ambitious-middle-skill-level-gamer" problem with MP. When I'm starting to play there are already a lot of high skilled players and I'm only mad at this game and try again and again and again I'm too old for that There's no problem that Titanfall is MP-only, it will be good for players.

    Very interesting, in-depth interview!

Too me it sounded like he's ashamed they're using Source as a base but yeah, they explain very well what they did so it's probably like Cincinnati says. They are truly the Doctor Frankenstein of the Game Industry

Sad thing is that being EA published we can very much expect they won't release an SDK, which is a shame with all the talent there is with Source tech.

It's fun to see that the Internet is all abuzz about console-war... then critique is applauding this very current looking game.

Yeah, it just goes to show that gameplay is king. I think these guys got it spot on: people have been missing the huge variety of movement that was possible in games of the 90s and early 2000s. Nowadays too many games are obsessed with following the Counter-Strike route of movement, which is all well and good but fuck do I miss the jetpacks, teleporters, super speed, etc that characterised Tribes, Team Fortress, Quake, Unreal Tournament, etc.

It makes sense for them to be using source though considering they were so versed with idtech. It isn't that much different.

I feel like I'm the only person here who actually likes Source The tools are outdated sure, but it looks great in the right hands (+the updates to it help again).

I don't think many people dislike Source, just wish Valve would try harder to create better tools. The way of editing is very different to others yet clearly still appeals to a lot of people (maybe it's the simplicity I don't know), but it could be refined without losing that.

One thing that can't be argued with is that it can make excellent games that look great.

I was so excited about this game. PC release, Source engine, mods, fuck yeah. But yesterday I suddenly realized, it's EA. So it will probably be Origin only and EA isn't renown for it's mod support. Bye bye Steam and the workshop aka God's Gift to modding. It's not the kind of game to play on a console either (imo). A bit disappointed now

Have Respawn said anything about mod tools and such?

But as you said... It's EA.

I can't really imagine a Source-based game turning out to be Origin only. That would be real EA douchebaggery right there.

Not jumping on any sort of hate train here, so it's a serious question, but is this me or does this look pretty dated? I know it's Source but that engine can still shine. Nothing wrong with the mechs and stuff but I just got this huge last gen vibe. Gameplay over graphics but I expected more from an Xbox One exclusive.

I hope this game won't suffer due to EA's current rep with online games and support.

Why these trailers are not in HD? T_T

It does, is it just my ignorance talking or Source has always been the worst in terms of texture rendering/resolution?

Anyways it's "Microsoft exclusive", and they explained they chose Source because they could iterate much faster. So we can just hope they have a big splash with this, so for the sequel they develop/adopt a more flashy engine.

But since the people is coming from and the format it propose, i'm dreading already an intense serialization without pushing much on the technology. COD has been doing always better no matter what...

It's funny though, Call of Duty has never really been close to the best graphically IMO yet their success has been insane. Maybe a great frame rate and solid gameplay is really the key to multiplayer success.
