it's visible the new execution system in place, that got rid of the button icons for silhouette highlighting. I frankly had an hard time in noticing it in most occurrences.

This is convenient, since there are some mapcoreans working on it, i'd dare to say that I didn't have problems with those icons, my complain with that (non-)QTE was the fact that it would only boost the score. But I think it would have been very cool to press whatever of those buttons that were popping up in the previous build to decide the order in which to execute the different enemies.

The single player campaign is what really interests me, I want to see more of that.

    Wow...

By the time #Ryse ships for #XboxOne, we will have served the crunching team more than 11,500 dinners throughout development. #RyseFacts

    Just wow...

Why would you tweet that? I know crunching is generally part of development but it's not something you really brag or tell people about is it?

I think whoever posted that is probably really regretting it by now

It's fun (?) to see that topic coming back every other year with a new polemic and nothing ever really changing. I've seen *some* improvements in the industry the last few years but it's still a practice widely in place...

I think it's a occurence that's hard to avoid. I think the real goal is not to avoid it altogether, but to minimize it and deal with it properly when necessary.

I suspect that the assumption that game developers are OK with crunching leads to a lot of shitty planning and management, and it's become full-on endemic within the industry — a hotpot of shitty leaders. There are lots of other development and creative sectors outside of gaming that deal with similarly long roadmaps and complexities, yet don't subject their employees to huge amounts of crunching.

I don't know how many game studios manage their projects, though. Are there at least solid roadmaps and some kind of agile development cycle like Scrum in place? These big studios that constantly end up crunching don't take a 'just get everything done for milestone X no matter what' approach... right?

Took me a few days to figure out why my twitter was blowing up with Ryse tweets. This was a funny retort [Blocked Image: http://kwout.com/cutout/9/nb/vn/ife_bor.jpg]

The best part about that retort was that Don'tStarve is going to take 4 years to come out on PS4 if the original development is anything to go by.
