That article ranks of bs.

Xbox One could get photorealistic rendering system for "amazing visuals"
Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer confirms company has conducted experiments with real-time ray-tracing; "A ton of potential with this tech; amazing visuals," he says.

Sounds legit.

The rendering technique would, however, be yet another computational effort for the Xbox One, but it's possible Microsoft could offload that process to its vast network of cloud-powered servers.
...really? So what happens when there's a bit of latency or even a short outage, your games go black? lol.
-
Yeah, the bit about the cloud power had my eyes rolling.
I'm curious if they are going to pull something off this tech anyway, i dunno, at least a partial implementation (if possible?).
I just read earlier this morning that MS is deploying DX12 on PC, consoles and mobile in late 2015 and that the new APIs can reduce up to 50% the use of CPU. With all that power to spare, surely engine magicians can do something good!
Edit: one of the news reports.
-
Well, that undeniably sounds good. I wonder how that compares to what can be gotten out of OpenGL like the PS4, etc use. If OpenGL is already 50% more efficient then that's not so impressive, but I have no idea.

Spencer is new head of Xbox and promises gamers first approach

Was the lady just a fill-in or did I miss some drama?

No hating, serious question, has anyone bought this? Is anyone playing with this?
-
Got a free one.

No, I'm a PC gamer. I wouldn't buy either console for atleast another year or two, then they might actually have stuff on them worth getting.
-
Between the two, I like the One a little better; it's a little concerning to see devs not being able to achieve same performances (resolution) as PS4. But then, I've seen articles recently showing how that could be irrelevant depending on the setup (TV+size of room).
Other than that, I don't have a PC and my money is going on that first (play+mapping).
-
So they are dropping Kinect. The one thing they should not have abandoned. By now it should really be called the Xbox 180.
-
Their argument "no Kinetic means more computing power for games" sounds strange. Because if Kinect was mandatory since the beginning, wasn't he hardware design already taking in account the extra processing power? It seems that their decision to include Kinect was a bad bet.

More interestingly, at the time I guess they said kinect wouldn't impact performances, or just minimally.

Christ, it's really embarrassing watching the whole Xbox One thing. It's just been a constant series of U-turns and contradiction, and while some are using that as a defence of Microsoft and claiming that they're listening to their fans, it's clear to me that the real reason for it is because there's a complete lack of focused direction and vision on Microsoft's part. They just don't seem to know what they're doing, and it's now gotten to the point where the XBone is basically just the PlayStation 3 with better graphics (I say PS3 because unlike the Xbox 360 that console had very good multimedia capabilities).
I know I'll end up with both, I just wish Microsoft would figure out what the fuck it is they want the XBone to be before they sink the platform. The proof is in the pudding: the PS4 is absolutely annihilating the XBone in terms of sales, and almost every game is coming out in an inferior state on the XBone. It currently has an advantage in that bizarrely its multimedia capabilities are superior to the PS4's (which are a step back from the PS3), but Sony has already committed to bridging the gap and considering that they have their own previous console to draw from I've little doubt it'll soon cease to be an issue.
It's just not looking good, especially considering the whispers within Microsoft about the Xbox division's future. But if Microsoft goes down, who could possibly replace them? At the moment it's becoming a one-console race, with Nintendo not really competing as a new-generation console and no other vendors really positioned to take the gaming market. The Ouya has been a disastrous failure; Apple continues to be antipathetic towards gaming. The only 'console' that could really become a serious contender is the Steam Machine line.
Of course, Microsoft could turn everything round. They have many solid IPs, and as the console is now out they're in a position to make it increasingly affordable. In terms of horsepower it's not that much behind the PS4, so I don't think that will be any kind of factor with the mainstream. I really hope they fix it, because competition is good. Part of me is even tempted to help them out by getting an XBone sooner rather than later.
Very weird things happening in the industry right now.

It's just the industry resetting to default. Remember how dominant the PS2 was?
