It looks like Microsoft is going to do something like Sony did: an exclusive event pre-E3 to talk about their new console.

    Let the battle begin!

    Quote

On Tuesday May 21st, we’ll mark the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment. On that day, we’ll be holding a special press event on the Xbox campus and we invite you to join us via the live global stream that will be available on Xbox.com, Xbox LIVE and broadcast on Spike TV if you are in the US or Canada.

On that day, we’ll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future. Then, 19-days later at theElectronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, we’ll continue the conversation and showcase our full lineup of blockbuster games.

We are thrilled to pull back the curtain and reveal what we’ve been working on.

Not expecting much from this event in terms of games TBH. Sounds like they aren't gonna be showing that much in terms of games, and are saving all that stuff for their E3 presser. Guess it's just gonna be multimedia hub kinect connectivity herpa derp focused shizzle, with maybe a single game shown.

I'm guessing they will come out and say the used game and always connected to play your single games thing isn't true. It's too stupid.

Then again they did somehow manage to make people pay 50$ a year to use their own connection to run a listen server.

There was an intersting interview of Pachter by Sessler, where Pach explained his idea for the distribution scenario for MS - have the console subsidized. But if they are saving pricing informations like Sony did, guess we'll not find that out yet.

The console is expected to be more multimedia oriented, but I hardly believe they are gonna show that little... I'd expect more like three, not necessarily exclusives.

Everyone here prolly knows I'm not the xbox biggest fan, but... If this is true... god damn, it could single-handedly make me wanna own the next box.

[...]The most obvious way to increase immersion is to simply extend the contents of the TV-screen into the room.

I'd love to see them prove this.

Anyway the distortion is probably the least gimmicky effect offered. Not sure if it's worth the thousands of dollars this setup will inevitably cost.

    1) I read the stuff on Kotaku today about Respawn's "Titan" MP-only game as a launch window exclusive on next Xbox, possibly on 360 as well. I haven't looked yet for corroboration because I've been at a conference all day and am totally exhausted. http://kotaku.com/the-next-gen-x…ve-so-484785241

    /start rant:

    2) Today at the Digital Hollywood conference in LA after a panel I was on, someone came up to me after said panel and for some odd reason started talking to me about the next Xbox and how much they hated Microsoft and the Xbox brand and wanted to see it fail and go out of business. He worked in mobile F2P games for a larger publisher that, yes, also publishes cross platform console games. The guy just unloaded his opinion on me, sort of passive aggressive nerd rage...ALL because I was "a gaming person" on some boring panel about monetization in digital media. Because assault is immoral and illegal I did NOT punch this douche in the face. But goddam it was tempting.

So, here's a public service announcement...

I know personally many people hate [insert your hated console / platform name here] but anyone in gaming should want all major platforms to be successful. The more viable platforms there are the more jobs for developers and everyone else. A rising tide raises all ships and provides more jobs, higher salaries. If you work in this industry, really think hard about the platform hatred you observe from colleagues. Question them on it. Any person who works in gaming and wants an entire platform to die because they think it will somehow save their ass in the long run needs to work in another industry.

tl;dr version: fanboyism is the suq.

    /end rant...time for sleep.
