looks interesting! I wonder if the brilliant mr. briscoe is involved with this? (chinese room?)

Either way, I can't wait until we can play games like this on the oculus rift and develop real and persisent PTSD

I would assume so. I've read Chinese Room is developing this using the HPL engine from Frictional.

So far it looks to be as shit scary as the previous Amnesia.... Would love to see this through an Occulus Rift

Looks and feels from that video very different from the first, which isn't a bad thing of course. I just love my alone in a haunted castle in a forest type stuff. First day purchase from me anyway.

Anyone else got it? Just played for 86 minutes and reached the church. Will post my thoughts tomorrow.

I'm still in doubt. I hear a lot of reports that it is only a shadow of it's predecessor and that after the first few hours it gets boring. So, please do post your thoughts.

Just got past the area shown in the loading screen. Pretty great environment art and atmosphere so far. It definitely seems to be simplified, but not in a negative way. These horror games take so long because I had to calibrate my screen a bunch of times before I could even start

Only played it for about 40 minutes, so I figure it hasn't really started properly yet. Most reviews have said that it feels a lot less scary than the original, and so far I definitely agree, not that that's necessarily a bad thing if it's a cool experience.

My game keeps crashing when I try to get through the exit to the next level.. It's the level where you have to open all the bilge gates/doors and then have to go through the sort of decontamination room...

I played for an hour, nothing really happened, and I stopped and went to bed. Most of my time was spent wandering aimlessly around trying to figure out where I was supposed to go.

I finished it. It's good but it's in no way great, especially compared to The Dark Descent. The game is fucking short, it only took me 4 hours to beat it and I took my time. The removal of mental sanity and the unlimited lantern means you can just sprint through the whole game without any consequences, since the monsters do not break you down mentally. The game is WAY WAY too linear; there may be two or three optional paths in the entire game and I'm barely exaggerating. The monsters themselves are definitely not scary. They may scare you when they surprise you but that's all.

On the bright side the game is very sweet visually, it has a very thick atmosphere and the story is intriguing even if it's cliché'd and far-fetched at the same time. The environment was refreshing and some areas in the game are absolutely gorgeous. But yeah, it's definitely disappointing compared to TDD.

This guy is doing a playthrough of the game and has managed to get VR to work with it.

He goes through and explains how he set it up in the beginning of the video if your interested.

    Occulus Overlay looks nice.

A bit disappointed about removal of the sanity meter and infinite lamp, maybe I'll holdout until Routine is released if that's still slated for this year.

    I'm quite disappointed

It's just not Amnesia, only in name. It's more Dear Esther with a lamp and I mean no slight in that, but where has the Amensia style gone? Where has the lamp oil gone? The tinder boxes? The ladaudamdaudajdaanum? The sanity? Where has everything gone? For the first hour of the game I was exploring expecting to find some tinder or oil or something but there was nothing and that just isn't fun for me as I loved exploring and getting rewarded for it in the original That extra bit a lamp oil you found behind the crate in the damp corner in the cellar next to the blood and strange noises coming out of the walls that sounded like a guy crying out of his anus could make all the difference by giving me that bit more light and thus helping me to not shit my pants for that little bit longer.

It's still a good game, I can understand why others like it, but for me personally it isn't what I was hoping for.

Wikipedia states this game is being made by The Chinese Room (Dear Esther) and not Frictional Games? So not the original developers from The Dark Descent?

Kind of wish I didn't blind-buy this then if that's the case :s I was really looking forward to playing a new Amnesia.

Been switching between this and Outlast, and you'd think that would be an alright comparison, but like dux said then this really is more like Dear Esther with a lamp than feeling like the original Amnesia. I'm about 2 hours in, and it just doesn't come close to the original in terms of building up tension and scaring you. Those phone calls might help in telling the story, but they make everything a lot less tense and honestly boring as a result.

In comparison then Outlast is scary as hell, and has in the same time already generated a handful of memorable and surprisingly emergent moments.

Never actually finished the original Amnesia, and at this point I'm much more interested in going back and finishing that.

I honestly feel like I want a refund. I know it sounds dramatic but.. Can you even do that on Steam?
