Well I mentioned it beore but I went through with it

I bought 1600$ of sony stock. The deal is if I make enough, I'll buy a PS4. If I lose money I'll have to sell myself or something.

Put a little bit in AMD too.

    That's awesome!

I've always been curious on how to buy stocks, got any beginners advice?

My dad always told me to remember one thing: "buy high, sell low".

I don't trade regularly so I'm probably not the best person to ask. If you just want to be able to start buying stocks it's probably a good route to use your bank via direct investment account. From there they should have an interface to trade stocks. Since it's from the same bank you can usually look at it as another account, transfer money from your savings and buy stock with it. After that you can consider a third party vendor, they usually have lower per-trade prices but there are issues with how fast they execute trades and stuff like you only really pay low if you do a lot of trading (100 trades a month).

Outside of the basic rules and terminology this is the only hot tip I know:

If you are in Canada and if you havent already used a TFSAA then make a bank trading account with that status. It lets you make up to 25000$ plus 5000$ a year without paying tax on it. Of course if you lose money you can't claim losses to reduce your final considered income.

Man I still can't believe the PS4 is going to cost BR 3,999 in Brazil (aproximately 1800 USD). There's no way you can justify that price by import taxes and shipping alone, if you take into account that the XBONE is going to cost almost half of that price in BRL. That price is almost double of what I made monthly a few years ago.

There's something deeply wrong with how Sony treats Brazilian customers, even though they are one of the largest consumers of Playstations (most of them smuggled from Paraguay where the taxes are a lot cheaper). I guess Sony just doesn't care, since they are making money anyway whether you buy it in Brazil or Paraguay...

Hell, it's cheaper to book a flight to Miami, buy a PS4 there and pay all the import taxes than it is to buy one at an official store o___O

    They actually addressed this issue

Anyone else super disappointed that after 8 years of being stuck with the same consoles the next-gen consoles can't do 1080p and 60 FPS for all titles while still looking as good as current day PC titles? I guess my expectations were somewhat unrealistic but I figured it was possible if you turn off some of the fancy stuff.

Dunno, perhaps I'm just too bitter but doesn't look like they'll be able to keep up for a decade when they start out crippled at 720 and 900p resolutions (definitely the Xbone). Sure, games will look better once we figure out the tech but what good is it when it looks awesome but jitters like crazy and has flickering edges everywhere. Then again... Halo 4 looked absolutely amazing so there's that.

I'm hyped about some of the exclusives that are coming out in the next years but I'm just hyped about the games themselves, not really the hardware they're running on :s

I'm waiting and seeing, but I'll be legitimately disappointed if current-gen games don't start adopting 1080p as a widespread standard. I can live with a sub-60 frame rate (even if not ideal), but I think games' visuals really come alive at 1080p and after playing a bunch of PC games at that resolution on my TV I realise that it looks so much better than 720p if your TV is pretty big.

I know that some big games like Titanfall are 1080p/60FPS though, and I think PlanetSide 2 is at least aiming for 1080p. I've also read that Sony is actively pushing 1080p/60FPS. So if some successful AAA games start making it a standard we may be in luck.

I wrote more about this once here.

TVs and mobile are evolving faster than consoles, yep.

But where I live, the average area of flats is going down when you compare year 2010 to yeat 1990 for example. That is against the increase in the average size of consumer TVs.

According to Nvidia and their G-sync tech, the reason behind monitors and TVs being tied to 60hz comes from power lines frequency. For historical reasons power lines transmitting at 60hz is a standard in many places. What G-sync does is to essentially enable monitors to be in sync with gpu's outputted frame rate, negatting the need of a game to have vsync enabled to prevent tearing. But then, 60 hz is not the world's standard, there is also the 50 hz one.

Don't know if its technically possible to have screen with adaptative resolution. Depending on what's going on, the resolution could be traded by fps or vice versa. I've read that killzone liberation resorts on variable resolution to keep fps up.

Publishers can be dodgy by advertising res and fps without specifing if it's SP or MP.

Switching between resolutions while in the middle of play would be extremely noticeable on any TV above about 36 inches so I definitely hope that doesn't ever happen. That sounds incredibly distracting to me, especially with static elements like HUDs. If I had to choose, I'd always take an FPS drop before a resolution drop so long as it doesn't go below 30 FPS.
