Really interested to see what Microsoft's response and offering will be now. To an extent I think Microsoft got lucky last generation: they were able to dominate with hardware of insultingly sub-standard quality and shit firmware, mostly because Sony shot themselves in the foot with a triple-whammy of overpricing, a significantly later release, and few interesting games.

Despite those things though, Sony actually did a lot right. Robust hardware, firmware that's still pretty great to this day despite hardly changing, and far better handling of non-game media than even today's 360 firmware — followed up with years of fantastic original IPs. The only real holes in their strategy have been online play and the store feeling a bit cumbersome.

I don't think they're going to make the same mistakes again, so Microsoft really have to be on their toes this time. Not only are Sony going to be working extremely hard to avoid any and all mistakes they made last time around, they might even be the first out the door depending on what Microsoft announce.

It is of course worth highlighting that I have no particular console bias and will be buying both.

Does someone have a list with all the trailers that were shown? The quality of the (recorded) streams I've found are shit.

Thrik, regarding hardware for xbox360 and PS3. Do you mean actual specs or build quality? I can't argue with build quality (RROD lawl) but if you're arguing specs then I have no idea what you're on about 8| PS3´s architectural choices haven't really helped them last generation... (As there's so much multi-platform going on). As a dev, I'm very happy that the PS4 is pretty much just a PC So it seems they are learning from their mistakes!

AFAIK the PS3 has more potential power but the development process at the start of the generation was PC/360 first and then HOLY SHIT HOW DOES THIS WORK.

Sorry, yeah — I meant the build quality. IMO the Xbox 360 represents some of the worst standards I've ever seen in any console generation, not just the total console failures that need no introduction but also the pad. Its D-pad is so laughably bad I almost throw it through my TV sometimes, the battery compartment plastic/metal is relatively brittle and has caused two of my pads to be virtually useless as they can't get juice from the batteries, and I've had a stick on one go weird too.

My general experience with the 360's hardware has been bad, whereas my PlayStation has been going pretty much since launch with no issues whatsoever. That kind of goes for every Sony product I've owned though, they do seem to take a certain degree of pride in their physical products.

Yeah, this defines exactly my feelings about the XBox. But, even with that being said, the bad dpad, the shorter battery lifespan, etc I could still look the other way if at least playing on that console didn't have so many weird little things.

Little things like the console Menu UI full of adds and even the menu sounds.

And why does console asks me everytime I boot a game where I want to load/save my save games, if from the memory card or from the disc or from the cloud, why doesn't it just remembers my last choice? It might sound tiny and insignificant but oh well...

If all games were coming out on all platforms I would... probably just plug a controller into my PC, especially if developers are going to use the extra processing power to put more on the screen rather than have it run at an acceptable frame rate. While the PS3 had the better interface and controller it’s really still about the exclusive games, rather than super fast RAM or the ability for my console to interact with my tablet, smartphone, toaster, fridge, etc.

One problem I did have with the 360 is it was not region locked, so to satisfy

I had to buy a second one for imports. I also had to buy a second PS3 simply because the first one bricked, leaving me with a Slim that didn’t play any of my old Playstation library. The PS3 also suffered for having the lesser version of many multi-platform titles, though the "PC architecture" should alleviate that this time around.

Does anybody feel there's a "downgrade" between Watch Dogs E3 demo and this one?

They said the watch dogs demo was ran on a pc geared toward ps4 specs, might explain why.

Sounds like there could be a good chance that PSM will have a ps4 compile target.

For those wondering, PSM is a c# library for making games for sony devices.

Looks awesome! Kinda feels a bit 360ish, I think it's the slight curviness it has to it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Could I finally shed my Xbox fanboyism and convert to a PS fanboy? Maybe!
