Nice Gamasutra article about the man we all love.

Here's a twist I suspected but it's good to see confirmation: after a certain period of time the overlord can be overthrown.

Thus he has an incentive to not be a dick: he loses not only his power but also his royalties. Now that's what you call real consequences of dying in a game. I love Molyneux.

I never know what to think about Molyneux... I can never tell if he's the real deal or bullshitting... guy is an enigma

I dunno what to think about that presentation. He's doing his whole "promising a lot" thing again.

Yeah I just haven't bothered with Molyneux talks since like Black & White. I just wait for the games and judge them on their own merits, and usually quite enjoy them. I know he gets excited about his games but he kind of ruins the surprise of discovering these cool features yourself, and not only that he over-hypes them so things you would have otherwise thought were sweet end up being disappointing.

He really needs to take on board the Thrik philosophy: under-promise and over-deliver.

I can't believe the players will all be peaceful and collaborate as he says. This is more similar to Eve and Ogame rather than Fable.

I predict a Jupiter sized planet full of penis shaped landscapes. I also predict reddit, 4chan or whoever to form huge alliances and crush everybody elses sandcastles.

Has anyone tried Godus yet? I've played about an hour and I must have clicked like 50000 times. You have to collect manna or whatever by clicking on little pink bubbles and that's what I've spent 90% of my time on. So far it just feels like some play for free iphone timewaster

Feeling exactly the same here, it just seems like pointless clicking. At least some of it should be automated.

Clearly the Curiosity experiment went to Molyneux's head and now he thinks the more clicks the more successful a game.

I played a couple hours of it last night, really enjoyable. Has it's problems like terrain editing being slow and tedious at times, the clicking on houses is annoying at time but I watched the Molyneux interview with Sessler at PAX and he said he knew it was a chore but designed it like that to make you feel closer to your believers instead of just having a bar fill up.

Hopefully as the game gets closer to gold all the annoyances will be resolved. Right now I am still having fun with it.

Why in the interview with Sessler the clicking and terraforming felt alright, while the Cinical Brit makes it appear a huge annoyance? Is Peter able to exercise the same "distorsion field" of Steve Jobs?

I'm sorry to be a hater again so soon, but this is really amazing in all the wrong ways. They've seen the bad stuff in mobile games. Put that bad stuff into Godus. And put the bad stuff in badly.

The way resource collection works in most skinner-box mobile games is like this:

    • You create specific resource generation buildings. You're looking at 2-6 each for two different resources in the first month (or five hundred pounds).
    • Buildings generate resources and tapping them cashes those resources in. There is a cooldown time between taps.
    • Buildings can store resources up to a maximum so as long as you tap before they fill completely, which can take hours, you're optimal.

    Godus:

    • Click tens, if not hundreds, of buildings every 2 minutes or lose resources.
    • Click them all again to spawn people.
    • Click all the people so they don't die.

This is incorrect!Edit: What a fine sentence that was.
