    Freeway to C17 - By Tom Rudderham

    =============================

    On the outskirts of City 17 a battle rages on an abandoned freeway.

    Use the burning cars and trash as cover, and the subways for shelter and safety as the battle rages above!

    Map includes a hidden hideaway, tank, trees to hide in and a ton of detail.

    Known issues:

    ============================

    Non yet, let me know if you find any!

    Requires a fairly hefty PC because of the amount of detail and physics.

    I don't like it, sorry.

    The entire brushwork is as simple and basic as could be, not to mention that it's all textured very quickly. The rest of the map seems to be stuffed with all the props you could find in the models folder. Also, the lighting is all very plain.

    Add a heap of displacement maps with some foilage props on it and you have Freeway to C17 by Tom Rudderham.

    It's a great concept, but could have been so much more though.

    For my first map I think it's a good attempt, took me a very long time to figure out how to angle the sun! It's a replica of a roundabout I walk through on my way to work, and there isn't any fancy architechure around so the map reflects that. Thanks for the honest reply though ShaDoW!

    For a first map, it's certainly not bad.

    Looks ok - not exactly as a map which a requires hefty PC though...

    Looks pretty good, kind of like a low-detail stalker.

    ShaDoW = Threeboy?

    Anyways, I think it's an excellent first map, okay in general. It's way better than most the custom crap you see on hl2dm servers now. Keep on mapping, you'll find new ideas, better ways of doing things and better looking ways.

    I think all you need for this map is some large center piece for gameplay and visual interest... try a massive maze like pile-up of semis & cars ... a collapsed building or highway... visual interest! The building in the skybox helps but it's not enough.

    you are definately missing vertical gameplay which means I'd expect to get bored of the gameplay pretty fast. Any good DM map has plenty of vertical gameplay to keep things mixed up. However you're hitting your theme pretty well. Maybe add cross road bridges? dunno

    sometimes i find it refreshing if theres no vertical fighting, especially in counterstrike

    Thanks for the comments so far!

    I'm updating the map file daily. Today I've added cubmaps, a tyre on a rope, made the tanker crash a bit more exciting, re-textured the subways, added more weapons, added an invisible wall to stop players escaping the map, and optimised the map with a 30% speed increase.

    Other ideas I had was to add a damaged building at the side of the map for players to enter. Add some vertical gameplay!!

    Invisible walls suck. Better make a barricade out of wrecked cars or something like that.
