Nice new change. I'm really liking it. Definitely will be visiting Mapcore much more often now.

    • Would the guys prefer slightly different fonts for the section names, on the home page. Looks very Arial-y
    • The Features page could use larger images, slightly smaller text. Makes you want to click on it!

Everyone's busy I'm sure but I (and many others I'm sure) appreciate the effort. Thanks again!

Each post is very big, can you save some space and make it smaller? Like this:

This is also needed for the mobile version (which otherwise look and behaves really nicely). Starting to browse the WIP thread at page one is a bit harsh

It's there, just click in the date, like so:

You'll get used to it guys, it's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just different.

wow I was using it already and I didn't even notice.. I think that's intuitive, or I'm just a weird person ;D

There are some forums that have a special button for that and it sits next to that time log, but in my opinion that's not necessary...

    Amazing stuff Thrik !!!! :)

Can't you keep the switching of backgrounds colors every 2 posts ? ( blue & white ) I think this is why i have difficulties to know to which post i am

is there a way to get a "open all new post in tabs" script?

i think the spacing between the posts is too much and the fact that the username is diagonal to the left floating over the content.

Me and my colleagues had a forum and it had a chat widget on the sidebar. It was really fun to leave some messages or chat with anyone online.

We have our irc channel, but I believe that this integrated chat channel in Mapcore itself could be handy.

also let's actually use articles for something worthwhile instead of just having reviews of games there.

Is this directed to the articles I've written? Just curious.

oh and by the way Thrik I don't think mapcore.org points to the new site? Only https://www.mapcore.org works. Just a minor thing.

It looks a lot more professional but I wonder what lies ahead for mapcore. I feel most of us are here because of what mapcore was a decade ago and are just here now keeping in touch. Will mapcore become a site that produces articles, features, tutorials, interviews, etc? We have lots of forums devoted to new content but they're underused.

Anyway, functionality-wise, I'm not too keen on the ability to like posts, there seems to be a lot of blank space scrolling through a thread, and I preferred the old spoiler tag. However, all that said, it's definitely looking a lot more spiffy and I like the WYSIWYG interface.

There's no intention to change what MapCore is, after all the forum structure is almost the same as it's been for years and the emphasis remains on it being a forum, rather than attempting to turn the home page into a seldom-updated news feed as was attempted years ago.

There will certainly be new content, but the point of that is to bring out some of the knowledge and opinions already here. For example, many tremendously useful and interesting things are posted in the 3D forum — the most busy forum alongside Gaming Discussion — but after some time they're buried and forgotten, rather than being readily available as a resource for newcomers. Plus there's a lot of generally cool content that's locked away behind pages of newer stuff, but might still be enjoyable to read. Finding some of those gems and restoring them is another thing I intend to do.

I think it's inaccurate to think of MapCore as existing only because of the past, even though its legacy is undeniably something that has fostered countless friendships and kept us all around. I'd so go far as to say that the majority of people posting here now don't even remember the IRC and HL1 days, and are here based on the forum's merits alone. As such, the new changes are designed to complement and enhance what makes MapCore an enjoyable place to spend time, and has kept people joining and sticking around for the past nine years.

The concerns regarding layout, space, and colours are being taken on board. I'll be doing some changes soon which will hopefully alleviate matters.
