Command and Conquer: Free to Play

    About 5 days ago word got out that Generals 2 will be turned into a free to play game. More on that here. It will be a part of the Command and Conquer online hub. If that wasn't enough, it's now announced that there will be no single player campaign.

    After the smack in the face that was C&C4, I've now lost absolutely all faith in this once glorious franchise. I already see it happening:

    Achievement unlocked: You have built your first unit

    You have won the battle

    Buy more resources

    This is a sad day indeed. Sorry to be negative, but come on, tell me I ain't right?

    I only played the Command & Conquer games for their single-player campaigns and amusing cinematics, so this is pretty much a complete fail for me. Was looking forward to a new Generals too.

    I'm really disappointed with where Command and Conquer has gone as well.

    I keep thinking to myself, maybe in another timeline, C&C went on to even better things after RA2. Maybe the Soviets won afterall

    Fuck, sorry to hear about the studio.. But ffs why the hell can they not make a decent C&C game? I'd love to see a proper return to the original style...

    I met the Studio GM last year at a holiday party and while said person was talking about how to make it successful as F2P I kept thinking: "Don't"

    I agree. Also, "Free 2 Wank" just became my synonym for "F2P".

    I stumbled upon that video a few days ago. So nostalgic, I made my first map ever in original C&C Generals World Builder. And Generals 2 looked promising.

    Let's hope C&C is not dead and something pops up on the horizon soon. It's been too long.

    Yeah, Generals was the only RTS I was really liking (the more grounded setting) and actually able to complete (I always got stuck at some point in the campaigns of Dune 2 and C&C1).

    I also played a bit around the map editor, as at the time we used to LAN party and I wanted my friends to play something I made.
