I don't know the specific of it, but the internet is going batshit crazy! reddit is on fire and neogaf hit it's record for most visitors onlike on their HL3 thread, lol.

I can just imagine Gabe Newell at Valve HQ thinking it might be worth testing the waters to see if there's still high demand for a new Half-Life. He arranges for a subtle clue that only the most obsessive of people would notice, probably weeks later. Except literally the next day Gabe wakes up and finds the entire internet on fire. "Holy shit" was likely the response before he realised that if the game is anything less than absolute perfection the Valve facility will be besieged and everyone inside hung, drawn, and quartered.

I know the trademark is real, but I mean: registering a trademark doesn't necessarily mean they'll finally make the game... They might be trolling, testing the waters (as Thrik said) and HL3 might be that movie they mentioned they will do with J. J. Abrams.
