    Oh no they didn't!

    Quote

So I had to infiltrate the concentration camp. I was thinking no way they are going to push it that far. A couple of minutes later I'm going through the bodies escaping the crematorium. When I got out I saw the chimneys blowing out the smoke of those who were burned. Oh no they didn't! Next up was me killing that Nazi torturer. Oh my, the satisfaction that gave me. Frau Engel her demise(?) was also....well, scary. Her jaw broken and still yelling at me. Holy shit, that got to me.

This game and the level above in particular made a real impact on me. Serious GOTY contender for me.

    +1

This game is the serious SHIT! Amazing me in every level, holy shit!

Also, i can't get over how much work they put into the art of this game, every level looks unique with the least amount of asset reusabilty I've ever seen in a game, other than in Uncharted.

Totally agree with all the comments above, every aspect of this game is absolutely fantastic! art, gameplay, story, characters, you can really tell that the people working on this put in a lot of love and effort.

I went in with medium expectations and came away blown out of the water. I admire and respect Warren Spector (probably my favorite designer outside of Miyamoto) but he was wrong to judge this before playing... It is downright amazing. Great work to all those involved! Are the developers at Machine Games helping out with Doom 4? I sure hope so! Great game!

    Edit:

I guess if there is one aspect that I would have liked seen improved would be the transitions from cut scene to game play. Great music stops abruptly, no fade in, harsh cut from beautiful cut scene to spawning. Other than that I applaud these devs for a really enjoyable game.

finished it over a week ago and have been uhming and ahhing over it. My experience was:

    Pros:

    • Lovely environments, everything felt unique and well crafted.
    • A nice variety of gameplay.
    • Good pacing.
    • Excellent voice acting, this really helped make me give a shit about B.J, Anya and all of the characters. MAX HASS!
    • Surprisingly good story, this isn't something you really associate with Wolfenstein so it came as a surprise along with the voice acting and dialogue.
    • I felt instances of Half-Life 2 and Deus ex when coming back to your Resistance hideout, that was really fun to come back and explore each time. Plus the little exploration missions as well I thought were excellent excellent excellent.
    • The intro mission leading up to meeting Deathshead, that was pretty sweet.
    • I felt like the god damn Terminator and I loved it. Was great to get that old school power trip again and not having to hide behind cover and suck my thumb until all my health regenerates.
    • Throwing knives over long distances only to have them arc and land in an unfortunate nazis balls is always fun.
    • The secrets were good fun and a challenge to actually find. One of them took me over 15 minutes to work out. Derp.
    • I played the fergus timeline and I loved that they gave him subtitles haha. Buncha baw bags. Even though he's amazed you're still alive when you rescue him, It was really sad to see how the his guilt at being chosen over wyatt has really played a number on him.
    • I liked the perks system.
    • I'm on the motherfucking moon.
    • DUAL WIELDING BABY!
    • The train section was marvellous I loved it. I do wish the game could of had more parts like that instead of relying on cutscenes as much (Even though they were good cutscenes, I usually hate them, so hats off to machine for that).

    Cons:

    • Apparently you're 49 by 1960. You do not look 49. I am still of the opinion that B.J is some sort of genetic super soldier.
    • The story got a bit too much by the 3rd half of the game for me and I didn't particularly enjoy the ending. But each to his own! BUBBBIIIIIIII! Take it motherfucker!
    • The moonwalking section was painfully short, I'd of loved it to go on for a bit longer.
    • Very easy and then incredibly annoying in it's difficulty. I played it on very hard.
    • You can still tell this was a console priority first, PC port second. Even though the guys have done a great job, the graphics menu leaves so much to be desired. I ended up enabling the console to turn on AA and AF (makes a HUGE difference, so much crisper)
    • The cutscenes literally did cut at times and it felt very jarring. One moment you're watching B.J slicing skin off of his arm and reminiscing about the death camp next second it abruptly ends and dumps you back into FPS mode. Really could of used a moments pause to transition.
    • Everyone has said it, and I agree with them. The controls were fiddly to say the best. The first section of the game on the beach in the crashed plane took me 3 attempts to realise you had to slide under that stupid robodog. I rarely ever used it after that. When I did it was only for running away behind cover.
    • The Deathshead enemies weren't... Wolfenstein enough for me. They were good don't get me wrong. But RTCW still holds the trophy in that department for me.

I'm glad sprony convinced me to get this, now I don't have to steal his game collection as payment. And I can admit I was wrong in my earlier claims of it looking bad. But then again, those were kinda the early e3 footage videos and not the cooler shit we got later. (attempting to dig my way out of my earlier hole)

I think that might be the most generous I've ever seen you be for a console-focused release, Dux

I agree that the designs felt a bit conservative. RTCW had those enemies with their lower half replaced by a big shock thingy, for example, or zombies. I can respect The New Order's shying away from the supernatural though, it seems like a deliberate and thought out choice for the sake of the story, and I feel like so many story choices in games are made due to time constraints or just as an excuse for an already created bit of content that a game that feels 'holistic' like The New Order does is nicely refreshing.

And I'm glad you had so much fun with it. Plus, we got it cheap! Also, nobody is stealing my game collection. I got 4 RoboPussyCats protecting it

It takes a man to admit he's wrong so I won't give you a hard time about attempting to talk your way out of it.

Finished this last night. Game combines like everything bad and good about modern shooters in one place. I enjoyed it but christ sake it's all over the place. I mostly just wanted to be shooting stuff and there's a lot of times in the game where you are not shooting stuff at all.

And yeah the env detail is out of fucking control.

It's nice to see people enjoying the game The reviews (or the scores rather) are not exceptional but players seem to be having fun despite the issues and that's what matters most! Also (apart from the low-res textures issues) art and LD don't seem to be the focus of too much hate and that feels pretty good!

An expansion where you play as Tekla and use a SpaceChem style minigame to do future prediction maths
