Absolutely excellent reviews across the board. What a relief after hearing about all this turbulent development.

Twin Snakes is an interesting one. I personally prefer to replay it over MGS1 because the latter is just so dated now that I can't enjoy it. It was excellent in its time but I think that 3D games started to become somewhat timeless-looking as of around the PS2 generation, and games before then really haven't aged very well at all.

I don't believe there to be anything wrong with Twin Snakes' voice acting. There is the odd bit of dialogue that perhaps isn't delivered with as much success as in MGS1, however I would say that the performances are better more often than they are worse.

For example, Snake clearly sounds a lot more like he does in the later games when Hayter got more comfortable with the role; the same goes for Colonel, who sounds more like 'he' did in MGS2 and MGS4. The Ninja was voiced better (wasn't just the same voice actor as DARPA Chief), Sniper Wolf was better, and the original actors were retained for almost everyone else. Naomi losing her accent was no problem and it never made sense for Mei Ling to have a non-US accent as she wasn't Chinese, both of which were retained for MGS4.

Some gameplay mechanics make the game a bit easier, but that's why you play on extreme which provides a superbly challenging game. Everything else I would say is pretty much a triumph for Twin Snakes, from the graphics to the music to the cutscene direction. The main theme was dropped, but you might notice it's not in later MGS games either because of legal reasons.

Admittedly the oft-mentioned flip Snake does over a rocket was a bit excessive, but aside from that the cutscenes were much better in almost every way. I mean I just can't take the originals seriously when compared. Better music, better dramatic timing, better dialogue delivery, better cinematography. Considering how important cutscenes are in MGS games, this matters a lot yet is frequently overlooked.

OK I went off on a bit of a tangent there, sorry. But I do think that Twin Snakes often being so readily written off is an injustice to what is an excellent and faithful remake. It might not get everything right, but neither did MGS1. Nostalgia does give MGS1 a plus, but then I get nostalgic about both.

If choosing which to play today, after drawing up a list of pros and cons I always lean towards Twin Snakes. And if I'm recommending to someone who've never played either, I find it very difficult to believe they won't prefer Twin Snakes over MGS1.

    pls b sep 1 nau ;(

I did actually consider watching the 3-4 hour long Peace Walker "movie", since I never played that and supposedly it'll probably leave quite a lot of the plot of Phantom Pain seem even more confusing.

The Italian review is apparently the lowest for now, at 8.8.

i've read the conclusions and honestly seems very motivated, and any score above that just fanboysm. Apparently there's an organic first part, and then a second that forces the player to repeat the same missions at higher difficulty.

I'd speculate that's because of the whole Konami going berserk.

    Sweet mother of god.

The last MGS trailer to be directed by Kojima, damn, brings a tear to my eye.

Ok so, as a non-PS owner whom MGS' trailers always sent shivers down, and from Snake Eater always tempted to get the platform… I think this trailer is really ugly.

Whats that shit Times-like font in the post credit scene? "Ultimate eVolution" as "evangelion, yes I ripped you off"?

And I'm ignorant in the evolution of Snake, I know there are many different Snakes (whhhhyyyy?!?!?! this always drew me crazy ?) seems like this spoils everything in terms of narrative??!!

You new to the franchise? There's few things in MGS that are completely original, even the name Snake is completely taken from the movie Escape from LA (including the eyepatch). In MGS2, Snake even hides under the name "Plissken" lol.
Kojima is a movie aficionado, and he always injects movie pop culture into his games, half the fun fun of them is figuring where they come from.

As for the font, every different MGS game trailer has some really peculiar font choices. MGS4 for instance went for the brush style font, and if you go back to the previous ones you'll see other styles as well, not defending that horrible Times new roman font, just saying that he likes to play with shit like that, and not always successfully. lol

As for the many "Snakes", it's not really that complicated, there's Big Boss, and then there's 3 clones. Liquid, Solid and Solidus.

I'm guessing the font choice was probably because it was quickly localized from a Japanese version. Japanese trailers, and even games (for example, most HAL Labs games use it for main menus), use that font very often.

    Loving this!

Oh, and if some of you is not into the MGS lore, i recommend playing or watching the story of Peace Walker and MGS3 - those are the most important games for the MGSV - as for the story
