I thought I'd challenge myself, and try to make a map based in Ravenholm.

http://thejuice.hollosite.com/trapt/even_more_newer/ - The screenshots are high res, and I do not want to stretch the forums out of their usual dimensions, so I am giving you the directory instead of the command.

This is my first Source map, but by no means my first time in Hammer.

Still needs a LOT of work done, but I feel it is good enough to show.

Lighting is not in any ways too dark for DM, as it has been tested.

Please, feel free to comment. Every comment will eventually help the map to be as good as it can.

A few notes: It is VERY blocky at the moment, and that will be fixed as soon as possible, but I'm going away for 2 weeks very soon, so don't expect any updates for a while.

Also, the original Ravenholm was very blocky, and I'm trying to keep it as close to the original as I can.

Texturing is VERY repetitive at the moment, but will be fixed some time when I have a run through Ravenholm taking reference screenshots again.

As I said, All comments welcome. Other people's opinions can only make the map better.

You should have stuck to the Ravenholm theme, but instead been original. I can't see much benefit in recreating Valve's work, and we, the audience, certainly don't get our fancies tickled.

    It isn't being recreated.....

It is an originally drawn layout by me, hence it isn't recreated at all. You may see similarities, but that is only because of the theme...

    The lighting is pretty good.

I don't like the boxyness of it. You could at the very least make some proper doorframes so your doorways don't look like somebody went and cut some square holes in the walls with a flex.

Yeah, I did plan on making door frames, I just haven't got around to doing it yet.

    Kinda busy at the moment.

This was very fun to play except for three things which I was annoyed with:

Uno - Tree glitch. You know.

Dos - The windows by the player spawn and the dumpster-car-zombie area need to be breakable, otherwise there's no flow between there and it takes too long to go between them and is just annoying.

(On the subject of spawns, add more. Please.)

Tres - The physobjects and the boxes which spawned nothing were annoying because there was little ammo and you couldn't drag the items out of their areas easily. (I couldn't steal the barrels over by the zombie-dumpster-car area to toss in the blue dumpster D:) Add in a few smaller things, like more paint-can sized stuff (Sawblades?) for people to take around the map.

Overall it seemed to fit the Ravenholm theme fairly well, lighting was perfect and bright enough for DMmage. Add in some flame traps like Gregori had setup in the SP level for people to try and fry each other with, and just add some trimming and general brush detail and it's a solid map. If you actually have more than 1 spawn point, that is.

I know the blood is cool but try using a bit less or diffrent shapes of blood.

Apart from that the map doesnt seem to have much except the standard props. Standard houses, standard streets, and like u said its all blocky.

Looks pretty good for me. Fix some of the blockiness and you've got yourself a good map, in my opinion
