Don't know if there are any soccer fans here, didn't see a topic yet. Just finished watching the first half of Poland - Greece. The referee is either corrupt or a amateur and Greece is playing like crap.

Of course it's football! I choose soccer so that the Americans understand as well

I will not discuss the first game since Marvin is going to watch it later. It was quite strange though

:embarrassed: Haha, I put football in there intentionally, because the name just makes sense! Leave it to the Americans to screw up the naming conventions of sports t.t That may actually be one of my pet peeves lol. I always want to call it football, but I'm always afraid everyone will get confused (what with being in Canada).

give us a break. soccer is what the english used to call it to distinguish it from other football games, mainly rugby (still officially called rugby football, i believe).

given the english invented the game, i think we can quit feeling guilty about calling it that.

too much fake crying in soccer, anyway.

I don't know but I think I find this more ridiculous than anything i've seen in soccer http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/NFL-la ... /id/441544

More than 2,000 former NFL players have joined forces in a lawsuit due to be filed on Thursday alleging the league deliberately and fraudulently concealed from players the risk of brain injury from playing professional football.

Like, OH SHIT I didn't know bashing my head against other guys heads over and over again for years and years can damage my brain. In other news, punching a wall can cause injury to your hand.

Should be good. I just hope doesn't turn out like Portugal vs Brazil during the World Cup. Such a disappointing match.

Unfortunately I must agree there are a fair number of pansy pro football players. But hey, we can all dislike the diving together! :science:

Here goes four hours of consecutive football matches

EDIT: Blarg! Looks like I can't watch the second game until 11 pm here... tonight anyways

I know this is a controversial issue, but soccer needs video judging asap. The only good reason against it is nostalgia.

Wow, yea no kidding... *stunned* They still have a chance to get past the round but that was just poor. My predictions = Germany beats everyone, Portugal beats Denmark and loses to Netherlands. If that happens than it will come down to points though, we shall see. Unfortunately I don't have live access to the second games, so I'll chime in on that tonight or tomorrow I suppose.

Yesterday though! Greece vs Poland started out really stale for the first 20 minutes or so, but man did that game pick up! During the first half I was rooting for Poland, but in the second half Poland slowed down and Greece actually acted like a solid team on defense and offense, good game and I didn't mind the tie (despite some of the reffing).

Russia vs Czech... very entertaining game from the start, but also very one sided. Arshavin played really well (so did a number of russians whos names I do not want to type out), and the star for Czech for me was Vaclay Pilar. Even though he didn't necessarily need to contribute to the win Pavlyuchenko was really excellent for what he played as well.

So far EURO Cup 2012 is awesome! All of the games have been entertaining, and the upset just makes it more interesting I think (although I did want Netherlands to win...). Cannot wait to watch the next game tonight

I am against this, I think video judging hinders the flow of the game and the refs authority. Frankly, I enjoy the fact that the official decisions are made in a very human way, you don't have to like them and they are not always right but it would feel very synthetic if they stalled to check videos on offside plays/ goals all the time. Part of the enjoyment of watching football without video reviews is that you have your own perspective on the play you just saw and can say 'That guy was WAY offside!' or 'There was no foul, wth!'. For example: the Greek player who got two yellows yesterday, he barely deserved even one, but it made the game more interesting. Also, now I have an opinion of that ref (you get to recognize a lot of the pro refs when you watch enough games), and it makes me appreciate some refs more, or have an excuse to blame the reffing in a game for the result .
