This looks great! I get a genuinely lovely vibe off the trailer and feel kind of nostalgic now, it's clearly something of a love letter to those of us who grew up with these kind of games in their prime. Hopefully they bring some of their CGI-meets-traditional-art techniques over from Tangled (actually a really good film that deserves to stand alongside all Disney's 'typical' princess films).

disney owns pixar...it uses pixar tropes...just seems to fall more under pixar's brand.

Just because you own a studio or brand doesn't mean you can slap it on the product, people are smarter than that.

It's pretty funny how Pixar became the new Disney after Disney really dropped the ball during the 2000s and failed to put out many worthwhile films — the assumption of total quality people once had for Disney films became Pixar's thing instead.

I think Disney is trying to undo the damage of their weak last decade (especially in comparison to the amazing stuff they put out in the 90s) by once again becoming a family film powerhouse in its own right. The last two I've seen are The Princess and the Frog and Tangled, and they're both splendid. This looks like it'll continue their new trend of quality films.

this is more what i'm onto...it seems that disney is muddying the distinction between "brands" by taking a lot of lessons from pixar.. not content to rip almost exclusively from timeless fairy tales and sanitize them (which takes us right up to both princess and the frog and tangled (read:rapunzel)...but it is now creating a mythology around the accessories of (contemporary) childhood, ripping from pop culture, and throwing a bigger bone to the adults in the room (some of the things that put pixar where it is). usually, when a studio owns multiple brands, there is some default communication about what can be expected via that branding. not the best example, as it's not animation, but look at disney's touchstone, which says, "this is still family friendly, but it's darker." now look at the internet and see how many people are mistaking this for a pixar film. makes me wonder if disney is going to gobble up pixar's name, too.

Disney has a history of "porting" fairytales, but it's not the first time that they went with something more contemporary. Bolt, Dionsaurs, Lilo & Stitch and a couple more movies were done by Disney before which didn't have Fairytale backgrounds.

I see your point, but keep in mind that Disney Animation Studios is not Disney Corp.. Disney is the head company and similar to Fox and other Networks in the US it's a Publisher for multiple studios. Disney Animation and Pixar are probably as close to each other as Dice and Respawn, both owned and published by EA but completely different technology and franchises. And both big enough within the Network structure to chose and create their own IPs, rather than being used as "of the mill"-studios.
