I was on Polycount last night and decided to check out one of the game threads, and oh my, I think I've found what could possible be the greatest game ever made.

It's basically a mod where the only objective is to survive (borrrrrrring, cliche!), but set in a post-apocalyptic, zombie-overrun world. The servers are running 23 hours a day and the game world is persistent. You spawn in the world and have to scramble around for weapons, ammunition, and food/water. You need this stuff to survive, and have to constantly be on the move to get more.

However, other people are doing the exact same thing. You can work together with people, or you can rob people if you're so inclined.

Watch this video to find out a bit more. It's part 2 of 2, so watch the first if you're super interested, though it is a bit more slow paced.

It has a very 'STALKER' esque vibe to it, and I love the idea of a community, survival based game. I'm gonna get it when I'm back off holiday!

Maybe we should all try this out soon. I'm back from Portugal in 2 weeks, so we should play it then

Or you know, you guys could play without me, then I'll hunt you all down and steal your underwear and feed your penises to zombies.

Saw this yesterday as well, even though Arma 2 isn't exactly the most tight controlling game in the world then this could be a lot of fun. Will have to dust it off and check it out.

Still waiting for somebody to do a proper open world zombie game (plz Rockstar). Maybe having a randomized destination you have to reach and then loads of forests, villages and cities to cross and scavenge. Seriously don't get why somebody hasn't done this yet. Tho mods like this are nice, then having a proper game could be amazing.

but why does it have to be zombies?

Why not? Zombies are the best thing ever, they're cool by nature! What would you put on there? Big headed white aliens?

I'll try it out with you. The world seems so huge and dangerous.

    From the home page:

"Not only that we also have created custom vehicles which can be repaired and ridden around to show the world what you're made of!"

Oh yeah and make sure you have balls to play this.

    Requirements:

    ArmA II: CO

DayZ Mod Files (Available on the downloads page)

    Balls

i'm just kind of tired of zombies. they were cool back in the day but it just seems like such an overused concept now. i'd rather see something new and interesting. or even better, a game that is only about survival without any form of antagonist(s)? hella more interesting than zombies.

Yeah... well, never your sig made so much sense.

Srsly tho, for the best or the worst, when you make games, you have to please the masses.

are you saying there's no way of doing that while still being able to like what you're making?

What makes this so compelling for me is the idea of having to constantly watch out for zombies with your companions, and then having to fucking leg it when you run out of bullets. Sounds exhilarating!

yeah, the survival aspect is what makes this cool. It could be mutated kangaroos your running from and I think it would still work.
