Need recommendations for a good compact digital camera

    Hi all,

    So im shopping around at the moment for a good compact digital camera, by 'compact' I just mean something that can easily fit in my pocket. I've had a DSLR for years (which also needs upgrading) which is great but I'd really like to get something a bit more portable for vacations, birthdays, outings, more causal stuff etc. I realise I will probably not be able to get anywhere near DSLR quality by going compact, but i still want to go for as good quality as I can get, preferably something that also works well in low lighting conditions.

    I have a couple in mind, such as the Fujifilm Finepix X10/X100 or the Canon PowerShot S100, but was wondering if anyone here has any recommendations?

    I don't mind forking out on price (within reason) if it means i'm getting something that will last.

    The iPad 2 has a front VGA camera and a rear-facing 720p camera, both capable of still images (but these are only taken at a low quality 0.3 megapixels) and 30fps video. The rear-facing camera has a 5× digital zoom for still images only. Both shoot photo and video in a 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio, unlike the iPhone 4, which shoots in a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Unlike the iPhone, the iPad does not support tap to focus, but does allow you to tap to set auto exposure.

    Some of the Canon Powershot series are very, very good if you do a bit of digging. It's been a while since I looked into it though!

    A good friend of mine has the X100 and I've only heard positive things about it from him. He also takes it literally everywhere he goes. And apart from all that; he is a seriously talented professional photographer, so I guess that counts for few points too.

    Thanks for the recommendations guys, the Sony Nex certainly looks appealing, although i'm a bit concerned about the lack of a flash, seems like this would make it pretty useless in low light conditions, right?
