I'm sure you've all seen this latest technology from Google. It's basically a set of glasses that also acts as some kind of smartphone and superimposes all types of images and shit in front of your eyes.

Personally, I think this is really self indulgent and completely pointless (but you know me, I'm cynical). If I want to make a phone call, set reminders, navigate using GPS, I will use my phone and then when I am finished, I will put it away... I don't need a pointless frame on my face, I already have one (Though that one is slightly more essential to make me not so blind).

Some of the comments on the Guardian website are hilarious:

    "Coming soon: the Apple iGlass.

The same as the Google one, but twice as expensive. Features include a fully-patented system which involve poking yourself in the eye to unlock it, and a new 'Retina™' display that makes everyone look like Steve Jobs."

"Maybe i could use them to superimpose an attractive face onto my bf's head. Then, if they could "augment" what came out of his mouth so that it made some sort of sense and wasn't obnoxious drivel, i'd be happier"

    What do ya'll think?

That actually looks really sweet IMO, although I'll still want to use an actual phone as a phone because I don't want to be that guy who seems to be talking to himself. All the other features look useful though, it'd be cool to have notifications and warnings pop up in your vision rather than rely on hearing the ringtone or feeling the vibration — it's bringing another sense to the party.

I wouldn't ever wear glasses like that, though. If they could be built into regular glasses for those who wear them and contact lenses for those who don't, that'd be cool. Or even better, just built directly into the eye itself.

one day you're going to look up and be that guy who isn't talking to himself.

i spent a whole 30 minute bus-ride the other day trying to figure out if some guy snickering to himself behind me was criminally insane or just had a really funny friend.

Nice idea but I don't think I really need this new technology.

If I take that, I'll be like this man ^^

I see lots of potential there for VR apps. About fucking time VR really takes off. Sit on your couch and have a virtual stripper undress in front of you. Smoke some weed and then use an app that makes everything you see more trippy and funny. Darken the room, listen to music and the glasses project some trippy visuals in front of you. Visit a stadium or something and then see through your glasses how it's like during a match day. Stuff like this. Gonna be fun especialy once it can display 3D stuff.

Couldn't care less about all the social networking stuff.

This post captures the true essence of Fap err MapCore. Thank you, Steppenwolf!

I think such glasses would be amazing. The ability to conveniently take a snapshot directly of what you see would already be worth it.

It's the future indeed. Just look at Windows 8. Now your "desktop icons" will be huge with live updated information overload.

The irony is all this stuff which is designed to make your life easier actualy makes it more and more complicated and on the workplace hurts productivity.

It's already bad enough when you have real social interactions and all your friends are constantly messing with their smart phones during a conversation or while you watch a movie or show together. In the future they will look at you and talk to someone else actualy.

Hence i would prefer this technology to be used as a device for recreational purposes.
