I don't know if any of you still play this but offline mode is coming in the next update. So much for peoples PC's not being powerful enough to run it alone...

I never got this after the mess when this released. Still doubt I will

lmao. But still no bigger cities? Fuck me...

At least the ability to mod should make that possible. If that comes along and the shitty simulation issues have been fixed I'll probably give it a go at some point. Or just wait for the inevitable Kinect/Move-enabled next-gen version.

Not going back to this game until they add bigger cities...

If someone could crack this game open, allowing it to be modded to hell... all the problems would essentially go away sooner or later, without EA's involvement.

This is why you have stuff like the Workshop and mods. It adds so much value to the product.

I was just reading the first few pages of this thread. The hype, the anticipation... the fucking shitty let down.

Seriously. I don't play Sim City to build 10 square blocks of houses. I play Sim City to build a treeless, dystopian hellscape of highways and heavy industry that stretches as far as the eye can see.

    Sim Town

There was actually a Sim Town in the 90s and I think its plots were still bigger than SimCity V's.

They always said that it COULD NOT RUN on a PC locally. The glassbox engine needed too many calculations to run all the agents. Now they say that making SimCity work offline took 6 months (according to the Lead Engineer) and significant portions of code needed to be rewritten (source). While a bedroom hacker managed to achieve the same thing in just a few days nearly a year ago.LMFAO.

Well if the system was built for cloud storage, I'm sure they couldn't rely on using the same approach as a bedroom hacker and have it stable and optimized, but actually had to rewrite a lot of stuff to make it work. A quick hack isn't the same thing as an official update that has to go through QA and all that other stuff. I think the idea of having peoples city interact with each other and have everything in the cloud sounds like a neat idea on paper, but translated very badly into the finished product.

I have to say Sim City V in the same context as 'stable and optimized' is very ironic!

It's so sad they fucked this up, now I have to wait another couple of years before they announce a new one that might bring false hopes as well. Bahh..

They keep making it sound as if haven and earth had to be moved in order to make it work offline. These are all lies and that bedroom hacker proved that. You are right that doing it officially requires a different approach and a lot more work. So I didn't mean to underestimate that. But this is still inflated PR bullshit to justify having that clusterfuck of a launch (if you can call it that) and we all know that.

It took them six months to make it work, so some heaven and earth had to be moved. You think they just twindled their thumbs in the meantime?

i've played every version of this game but this one.

even with this news, it's probably going to stay that way.

    try more, maxis.

No, that's not what I'm implying. EA says it took 6 months, not a very credible source. Without actually working there no one, neither you or me, can tell how much effort went into this. The only thing I'm saying is that, when you look at the bigger picture, it smells like bullshit. But that's just my opinion and it can be wildly different from yours

I very much doubt they would delay (or sit) on a patch just to save face. Give the developers some credit ffs, they'd want to get it out the door asap.

I think it took them 6 months because they didn't have (want/no budget) resources on the project, it might not have taken 6 months when they were still a full team but you gotta stay realistic. Nobody's gonna ramp up a project for some bugfixes or changes so it's totally warranted imo. Sure you can call that PR talk but that's just how projects work.

Seriously you guys sometimes... Sure they screwed up, but when they finally address something you still find ways to complain.

Be happy that some devs spend time on this. Then again, it's still a shitty game :/

Just for the record, I mean no offense regarding the devs. My responses are purely aimed at EA.

Was thinking of maybe getting this game if it was sold for cheap.. but damn, it's still around 40e here in Finland. I guess I could just already wait for the next one if prices aren't dropping for SimCity V.

For me it'd need to be cheaper or for them to make cities that are Much bigger like the original, that is the biggest sin for me lol
