Quote from Jetsetlemming
I started because of Ion Storm and Deus Ex

..are you in the industry?
Well if you want to define it that way only people who got their first jobs at Valve "got their start in the industry" because of Valve. Don't get all exclusive and selective and shit on me, bro.
uhh alot of people here started because of worldcraft/hammer and got their first jobs because of their portfolio of what they did in worldcraft/hammer? i mean im not saying anything because i'm not in the industry... yet
-
well industry or not it doesn't matter, who cares. the thing i was getting at is that valve and their willingness to support the mod community means a lot of people started with their tools, and got into game creation because of it.
-
Lets be honest though, their tools are bloody awful.
-
imagine how good their games would be if they had decent tools. i think they are doing the rest of the industry a favour by holding themselves back so much.
not to mention anyone that uses them for modding ends up going to a studio and is like "oh my god these tools are so easy to use!", making it easier for them.
valve truly are forward thinkers.
-
haha, yeah i wish that was true. Valves tools are definately better than a large number of independants tools.
