As you've probably guessed, MapCore costs a fair bit to run — and over the many years I've been running it this amount has become quite a large bit. After several members recently expressed a desire to donate I've decided to set up a way for you to do so as financial support would help me out a lot and I'm really against crapping up the forums with ads, etc.

I have some pretty sweet plans for expanding the forums/site in the very near future pending the resolution of some technical issues, bringing back and introducing a number of highly requested features; however, to make it happen I need dosh. If I get donations I can make it happen faster rather than having to put my own money aside, so please donate if you want to help make the Core as awesome as it deserves to be — thank you!

Note that the currency is British Pounds, you may want to use a currency converter. Soon you'll be able to donate while buying superb T-shirts and other such merchandise, however as the logo is still being determined (voting will proceed shortly and the final logo will be used on the new version of the forums) this is currently pending.

I would not be where I am today if it weren't for mapcore. Starting my own company alongside 3 mapcorians and for the better part of a year now working full time on our game. So thank you very much for keeping this site alive Thrik. Much love

I donated 10£ via google checkout.

send some moneys, not sure if Paypal send it once or twice, but I hope it helps keeping the core up

Maybe it would be helpful if you estimate roughly how much the core costs per year and we can donate annually, otherwise you get swamped with money now and in two or three years the war chest is empty again and no one knows what is goin on.

i like the idea but it could establish a kind of two-class society :/ i think everyone who stayed and enjoyed the core will donate anyway.

Thanks guys, I've had a bunch already — the Core loves you all.

I was thinking of doing some kind of badges/titles or at least a list of contributors somewhere which gives you some kudos for contributions, this'd be much easier on the new layout as it could go in the sidebar. I've seen contributor badges used on other forums and in some cases they even get special privileges but I don't know what exactly to do regarding that, needs some thought. I do kind of like the idea of giving recognition via a badge/title though. By all means leave suggestions!

Thanks for that suggestion e-freak, I'll do some estimations when I have a moment and will find some way of putting it public. Hopefully when the forum revamp is underway I can get a proper donation page up which has such info and the above list on it.

You get a confirmation mail if you succeed. (and i imagine a mail if you dont).

Oh and I support badges, but no extra privileges please.

    Sent some through google checkout.

Don't know how much it all costs, guess I could spend a couple more... Some numbers would be nice!

    To the core!

I may have sent some monehs this way.

    My life for the core!

*Edit: No badges please. They'll just use space for no real need and for it to make sense you need to set a minimum amount (more then 0,01€) and once you do that things are getting unnecessarily complex. Let people announce their support in the thread instead

I agree with the no badge sentiment. I think donations should remain anonymous and we can just brag about it here and feel awesome. It's simple and avoids complication, I know you may think we deserve some kind of recognition, but having the core stable, streamlined and accessible is more than we could ask for.

Thanks everyone, the love you're showing is awesome.

Regarding numbers as obviously you deserve to know where your donations are going, hosting costs sit in the $200–$300 range per year and my hope is to also invest in better forum software which is going to be a one-off hit of about $150 and then yearly renewals of $50 — so all in all we're looking at yearly costs of about $350. Donations so far are approaching the $200 mark which is absolutely splendid — I've been doing this out of pocket for years so it's lovely to get some help.

    Thanks again guys!
