Bethesda posted on their blog they will release it eventually... My guess is on a couple of months, they're too worried patching the game and making it work with the recent drivers for now, the team is smaller than you'd think.

I would guess some time in November or December. As HP said they will be putting all their effort into patching the game.

The patch is already out, they fixed the most important stuff.

From what has been said it seems that the editor is only 64bit and is going to be release 'soon' but is also going to be "somewhat limited"

Apparently you launch the tools with a console command "idStudio" but it doesn't do anything. If you enter "Find studio" in the console it lists that command also as the only option as well.

Yes the command is there but there's no editor in the 32 bit .exe.

Better start practicing your Modo skills for the 64 bit/editor release!

    No Max support at all?

How would this even work? Every level is applied with megatexture, you'd need to be able to generate UVs from the entire map and create your own megatexture surely?

I imagine there will be Max support. I just know they use Modo at id.

Carmack said on his Quakecon keynote that it is possible to create your own megatextures, but it would be so much hassle, that he doesn't think more then two people would even bother. This alone, severly limits your possibilities.

I also talked with Method, who works as a Levedesigner at Id, about editing for the game. He said it would work best with Modo [like Serenius already said]. I have no information about what other programs are supported. He also said most design is done in Modo instead of Idstudio.

There is still no word about the 64.exe which was promised on launch day. I think that if they wait too long, interest will rapidly diminish. Also, they haven't commented on anything since Rage which has received a fair share of criticism.

Is anybody even remotely interested in mapping for this game? It's been 6 months and still no editor or DLC. The forums at Bethesda don't see a lot of traffic and you can pick this title up for under 20 euro at play.com. I think it's rather safe to say that this has been a flop.

Was really looking forward to this.

Believe it or not, I took a week off from work. I launched ragemapping.com and id-tech5.com, made a Facebook page and a chatchannel all because they said the editor would ship at launch. Silly me huh?

It is actually really sad how badly this went for id.

Yes, the driver thing was unfortunate. But for the rest, they really got themselves to blame. I mean, it's a dumbed down mediocre console port at best with very little support and almost no communication whatsoever. They promised the tools at launch and for the last 6 months all we heard is "soon".

I'm not a PC fanboy, I'm a gamer and I own both a game PC and all the consoles. So even if it's a port and mediocre, I could have swallowed that. I just don't like being lied too. I got little hope for Doom 4.

i finished rage, which is more than i can say for 90 percent of the sp games i try and play... although finishing it was kind of an accident since the end pretty much leapt out of nowhere and said, "fuck you, we're done."

though i generally liked the game once it got going...i don't even know what would be appealing to mod for this game...
