nah it's more like how much stuff you have on that desk. i'd put the books somewhere lese instantly.

At that time I was living in my aunt's house and tried to occupy as little space as I could with all my stuff. As you can see I setup shop in the attic back then. I live in my own apartment now so things aren't as crammed as they used to be.

I bought a maaaaasive IKEA L shaped desk about 6 years ago, still going strong. It's been through 4 house moves in that time and each one I've taken a circular saw to it and cut it down to fit the existing space.
It's currently about 2.5m x 1.5m and still roomy, although the leg placement is a little odd these days

30 bucks? Really? FFS if you go to any hardware store you can get a piece of wood with better quality, twice that size and half the price. It might be because my dad is a carpenter, but I would never pay that much for something as simple as that when i could do it myself for a fraction of the price, and I'm not a particularly handy guy.
Most hardware stores will even cut the wood to any size you want for free, you just need to polish it (which is not that hard, just get a brush, a small can of polish, give it a couple of coats) and place it on the wall (hardware stores also sell L shaped supports, you just need a drill and some screws).

Dude, most people I know in this industry buy yogurts with plastic spoons so they don't need to wash them after, and you're suggesting them to buy and polish the wood of their desks? ahah, yeh.
People on this day and age don't give a fuck, it's all about commodity even if they have to spend a few more bucks on it.

It's true. I could go to the supermarket and buy massive bags of fruit, nuts, etc but instead I have little pallets delivered to me at work in handy lunch-sized portions.

The problem is you'll spend $20 on the piece of wood and $8 on the varnish and $3 on the brushes, spend a few hours doing the finishing, and end up with something looking slightly shittier than the ikea version. $30 is pretty damn cheap for a chunk of wood.

Ended up going with this. Plenty of space, and surprisingly sturdy.
