    Yeah, Mac client is a bit fucked, but they're focusing on the OpenGL side of things atm, post bugs over here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/…ffensive/issues

    as_ are the VIP maps, probably short for assassinate, or at least some variation of the word. the VIP maps made 1 of the CTs a VIP, with only a USP and 200 armour. You had to extract the VIP to a helicopter to win

    i'd really like to see its return as well. But i think someone only made the gametype via the scripts and its on the workshop

    I would rather see them fix / buff hostage rescue than add vip. Just my opinion.

    What's there to fix? I think the current hostage-mode is pretty nice and could even be competitive as you're no more leaning on AI to do the pathfinding to the rescuezone.

    There are a lot of things wrong with it. I would start by removing random hostage spawns and keeping the positions they know to work well for tactical gameplay. At the very least, removing the ones they know are terrible.

    Also, the economy needs to be re-balanced.

    I saw a great suggestion on Reddit a while ago, which was to remove the warning Terrorists receive when a hostage is being taken. It would definitely encourage T's to be a bit more tactical in their defense.


    I also think it was stupid to put that hostage near the bridge in Italy.

    CS_Italy is pretty much my main map currently (I have a friend who basically only plays this)


    The balcony hostage spawn is really unfair for the CT side (as is most of the map)


    If you start as CT and get 6-7 wins you're basically sorted.

    Hoping that if VIP mode does happen the triggers and tools go on the workshop same day. It's like finding an untouched gold vein level design wise

    The hostage spawns are only random at the beginning of the game, the 2 of 4 places they spawn in are fixed for both sides. I don't think it's a major balance issue. It just offer variety of game play not too dissimilar to Ts planting the bomb at different points to allow for different defensive styles.


    I haven't noticed too much of an issue with economy personally, but seeing as the T economy has been tailored for an attacking role, something might need to be looked into.

    This is a fantastic idea. The number of times I've seen Ts play super aggressive to suddenly back pedal when a hostage has been taken is far too often. That said, when Ts really box themselves in, it's a lot harder for them. A slightly organised CT team can breach at multiple points on one hostage area and the Ts are spread too thin to defend themselves.


    I definitely like it as an idea. Would be good to see some mix up, but de_ is the bread and butter of cs, people don't care enough for cs_ imo. It's taken enough for people to get used to new maps, you'd think you were breaking their game or something.

    Hostage spawns aren't random, they're designer placed. The new hostage system is a major improvement on the old system IMO, the few new CS maps implemented into the game tend to get as much or more play than the DE maps do.

    They are randomly selected from a series of designer placed positions.

    You can get a very minute level of control over what spawn pairings occur, it makes absolutely no sense to complain about "randomness" because it's up to the designer which spawns occur with what other spawns and at what frequency as well, iirc. It's objectively better than just having two spawns that never change, because it gives designers more options and it prevents Terrorists from having a repetitive defense, which was always the downfall of the CS maps.


    Now the doors are open, and if you don't like a CS map, it's probably because the designer did a lousey job, not because of the game-mode.
