Gotta be honest I think its pretty shit. Gameplay is horrible. Don't like it at all.

I'd say the only major difference i've noticed is the tagging. Movement doesn't feel all that different. Jumping feels a little different but nothing that couldn't be adapted to.
The recoil is still something i'm trying to understand. But the maps and speed seem spot on.
Removal of the fog would greatly help with distinguishing the teams. I find it kind of hard to tell the difference between a CT and T at range.

Apparently I jumped to conclusions to quickly. I mostly played Arms Race and Demolition and those maps have the largest 'cartoon' vibe too it. I also feel that those maps are too small. Would have rather seen bigger none symmetrical FFA maps for the gun game. But this is only the beta. The old CS maps look much better now and I can appreciate the subtle changes. Movement still feels clunky but messing around with the settings improves this a bit. Not entirely convinced yet, but luckily far less disappointed then before

Yeah I gave it a go for about 2 hours the other day. First thing that happened to me was half my screen getting filled up with auto help, ugh. Alos, is there a way to disable to spiral menu and have it just a menu like 1.6? I really dislike it. As for the movement and stuff, I need to give it some more play time.
-
Yeah it plays very solid in terms of hit boxes and bullet registration. But I feel like I'm playing vanilla CS again, with more polygons and much more annoying GUI additions. First thing I looked for was the option for text buy menus and turning off the GIANT thing in the middle of my screen telling me to right click to zoom in... and then coming up against when I was already zoomed. Sheesh
Actually my biggest complaint is probably sound. The guns do not sound unique enough at all. Plus there are some issues with bugged sound where it comes from the wrong direction.
-
I kinda like the radial buy menu but I'm sure glad they kept all the keybinds the same as CSS else I'd be stuck in the menu wondering where the hell everything is.
-
The gun sounds aren't really unique. I miss the old colt and ak47's sfx. I know they might have wanted to improve the quality and bring something new, and also that the weapons of CS:GO reference weapons that didn't exist before and so they sound different (the army must have upgraded those weapons, right?). But it's hard to tell which gun your enemy is using to try to kill you at a distance.
The recoil is what impacts me the most. There are situations that I'm sure I'd have killed the enemy if I was playing CS 1.5, but because of this giant recoil, I have to play slightly different, having to shoot a lot slower than before. There are times that I dump all my ammo on the dude in front of me, and I die, leaving him almost untouched. That's something that I can familiarize with, but it takes time.

Apparently, the game will launch with a zombiemod. More info here.
Or if your lazy:
QuoteCS:GO doesn’t launch alone next week. When we go live next Tuesday, we will have some brain chomping walking dead joining us. The guys over at plaguefest.com have been working with us to get Zombie Mod working on CS:GO and it’s ready! It was important to us as we developed CS:GO to make sure it was as moddable and extensible as any CS game. So this is just one of many mods that will be available to CS:GO in the coming months. Are you actively developing a mod for CS:GO? Let us know.
In other news, if you like CS:GO and you like movies… you should check out GameTrailers TV tonight on Spike TV.

Awesome, I hope they keep on supporting this game for a good while, cos it needs that extra love that Valve typically does after releasing a title. The release is only the first step for titles like these.
Does anyone know a guide on how to customize the game a bit? I really miss the "force models" from CSS, where you can for instance force all the T's to always load the same model of choice.
As it stands right now, the skins are very confusing as the silhouettes for the T's and CT's are very much alike for the most part, and that fact alone reduces your reaction time.
-
hope so. game definitely needs more de maps.
-
I really like the modifications they did to train.
Train in CSS was just too busy, if you were T and placed the bomb on the b spot, you had dozens of places to hide, and it didnt help that the lighting is way too dark. Now its a lot more tidy and balanced. Same goes for A, they moved the placement to the middle instead of in the corridor. Much better imo.

Just played a PCW and the flaws in this really showed through. Sounds are all messed up, nothing is where it sounds like it is coming from. The gun sounds don't have any real distinction, you could tell and ak from an m4 in 1.6 easily. The bullet reg is just fucking.... dire. I never thought it could be any worse than cs: source, but it is by leagues. The buy menu I've already mentioned is awful. The player movement feels off and the way the weapons handle as well. As for the maps, too much shit in the things I can't see what I'm shooting at so it's very hard to mark someone out even with all settings on low it's still a cluster fuck. And where's my silencer for the m4? my arctic avengers skin? 1337 krew?
Really disappointing. 1.6, 10 or so years on and still nothing that comes after can touch it.

It's not blowing my skirt up either but man I wonder how the fuck you manage to play any games at all sometimes.

Just thought this thread needed some additional whine.

I have a few issues with the design of the game. As you probably know, CS has a long tradition of e-sports and has always been regarded as a game which allows very high-level play (as opposed to shooters that are balanced a bit awkwardly and are aimed at a more casual audience and geared more towards "public games"). To me, the natural step forward for a CS "sequel" or follow-up is to look at how the game can be improved, while still staying true to it's roots and staying within the same space in the genre. I have no doubt that the devs could make major strides if that was their goal.
I've played the game for a few hours and, unfortunately, everything seems to indicate that this is a watered-down version of Counter-Strike. And a lot of the design decisions seem odd. For example, why have they expanded the arsenal in such a meaningless way? I wish they would use an approach similar to the one that Blizzard uses with units Starcraft 2; each weapon would have a distinct role and expertly balanced pros and cons etc. And weapons that can't be considered balanced, fun, useful or for some reason not viable are scrapped. Right now, a lot of guns are piles of shit that just throw noobs off the scent of the good ones.
There's a lot of stuff like this which makes the game less interesting (like the focus on "fun"-modes and the less interesting maps that go with them). In short; I'll be skipping this one.

It's CS. Whaddya expect?

Well, it's true to a certain extent, we just need to make this feedback get to the devs somehow, some of these flaws shouldnt be here at day one indeed, they're just so obvious, specially in a competitive game like this.
Not being able to distinguish which weapon you're hearing is a bit shit.
Another thing is the contrast, the maps have a lot of baked AO on them making the game very contrasty on the eyes, so the player models and the environments all blend in together in this messy noisy world where nothing is very readable. I see they lacked a good art director that understands both readability and competitive gameplay.
But I just try to enjoy it for what it is and hope it will get patched and supported. (If not, CS:GO will die soon and will not have half the life expectancy CS:S had)

Yeah, I come across as someone who is hard to impress, and? I have played every version of CS since beta 1 so of course I'm going to expect the redesign to be something that impresses me. And while I don't need to list out games that I "manage to play" I can safely say when it comes to old classics like this, I expect it to be up to par.

See I wish I could do this. I hate it when something could be so much better than it is, there is just so much wasted potential here again. There is a good game under all this annoyance.
This is why I can never be a lead designer, I'll be throwing chairs and producers out of fucking windows at meetings.
