We're just going to do this and see what happens.

Welcome to the first MapCore WEEKEND CHALLENGE. Your mission: Build a Half-Life 1 deathmatch level using the Nightwatch textures in 72 hours.

This is deliberately fast and on short notice to see what sort of participation we can get. The great thing about short-term challenges like this is we don't really need big participation to have fun, and it won't eat weeks of your time. If this goes well or garners enough interest, we'll do more in the future!

    Now, your rules!

    Quote

Using only the Nightwatch textures (and stock Half-Life content, as necessary), build a Half-Life 1 Deathmatch level in 72 hours. The challenge will begin Friday, July 1st, and end Sunday, July 3rd at 11:59PM US CENTRAL time (GMT -6)

A submission thread will be opened on the final day of the challenge. Post the following items with your submission:

    • [*:ys37jfch]A zip file including your level (prefixed with nwdm_)
[*:ys37jfch]2-4 screenshots of your level (ATTACHED! This will help us archive our entries for posterity )

If we get enough entries, we'll run the usual vote. If not, oh well! Hopefully it'll still be fun.

    You must:

    • [*:ys37jfch]Use ONLY the Nightwatch textures (nw.wad and nw_xeno.wad) and any necessary stock Half-Life textures (lights, clip, trigger, etc.).
[*:ys37jfch]Compile all NW textures into the BSP.

    You MAY NOT:

    • [*:ys37jfch]Use any additional custom content

You can download the Nightwatch textures here: http://www.gamefront.com/files/15027791 ... tures.rar/

If you care to go outside, the Nightwatch skies are available here: http://www.gamefront.com/files/20504288/nw_skies.rar

    And here's some theme reference:

Great idea, some of the most beautiful non-shadered textures I've seen. Once again, doubt I'll be able to join in, though this one is so much my alley that it hurts.

You mean Valve Hammer 3.4, which I've uploaded here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3688889/hammer_v34.exe (installer)

    - 3.5 update. Replace the Hammer.exe in 3.4 : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3688889/hammer_testbuild04.zip

    - Zoner Half-Life Tools (compile thingies): http://zhlt.info/download-zhlt.html

    - Updated Half-Life FGD : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3688889/halflife.fgd

To use all the textures and stuff from Half-Life, extract the entire 'valve'-folder in 'half-life.gcf' with GFCscape to your HL directory.

I'm working on getting the most recent versions of all of them that I can to release publicly like the textures. I'm shocked how much traffic the texture release blog posts gets, so there's definitely some interest out there.

Apparently copying just some dlls from older ATI drivers to your Hammer folder fixes that.

I can't see/haven't tried this download since I'm at work, but it's supposed to be a fix that does just that.

If you need help with that, feel free to ask. I think I still have a bunch of .map files lying around somewhere.

Shame I can't participate (going on holiday tomorrow morning), would have loved to have a shot at it (albeit I'm probably a bit rusty by now, haha).

    Looking forward to the results!

Now this I'd be looking forward to! Not really one for deathmatch maps, though.

Unq: My entry is secretly going to be a single player map with multiplayer spawn points. Shhhh.
