"I've gotta shoot the pipes" and "I can see the door, I'll smash through it." Really? I guess games aren't big on having the player think anymore? It's like having someone yelling in your ear how to play. "Shoot that guy! Yeah, right there! Take a right!" They don't even try to frame it in a way that would make sense, like someone guiding them from afar.
You're not playing the game, the game is telling you exactly what to do. What happened to environmental cues and subtlety? You need to teach the player the set rules for the game, sure. I guess it's mildly acceptable if this is the tutorial, but it's still crude and heavy handed.
You can have a linear game and still leave things for the player to figure out on their own. Have the player do, don't show. If the player can't do it, then show, but have a really good reason for the player not to be able to do it. This is stuff that Half-Life 2 was doing 11 years ago. How is this an improvement?
I haven't played the game yet, obviously, but this looks like a huge step back from Far Cry and even Far Cry 2.
lol peris you need to post more
I lirl'd pretty hard on this part:
Well duh, he forgot to yell at the player to press the 'Hold On' button.
Seconds earlier (1:48), he'd just hauled himself up a ledge, so it can't be his lack of upper body strength.
Quote@MrDubstepaholic It's called cinematic experiences. The experience wouldn't be as engaging if you weren't locked into the environment like this. Just because Farcry has improved doesn't you need to bash on it.Pdate92 11 hours ago

Ugh no people on the radio commanding me what to do please. That has always been the easiest solution and has become such a cliché in FPS games.
This feels like a bit of an attempt to grab some Uncharted fans, as the sequence is almost completely ripped out of Uncharted 3 (except Far Cry's effort is way less epic and impressive) and has the same kind of ultra-directed cinematic gameplay you'd expect from that franchise. Not that that's a bad thing in itself, but you have to do it really well like Uncharted to get away with it and you need to deliver an excellent script too — that was not the case here, with repetitive/annoying voice acting and a few weak attempts at Drake-esque witty comments during the action.
Not even close to writing the game off as earlier gameplay footage and developer interviews retain my interest, but this isn't the kind of experience I want from a Far Cry game. ![]()

I agree, but at least it's more logical than the dude muttering to himself. The best would be not having anyone yell at the player, and trusting them to figure out things for themselves, and keeping guidance a little more discrete.
Also not writing off the game, heavily scripted sequences like this might just be a small part of it.
Every game needs to be like this.
I agree with Thrik here^^
Not gonna watch anything else about the game, It's a day 1 purchase! Can't wait for december!
I very well might pick this up! :derp:
Looks cool, definitely getting it~
It feels empty.
I'm happy to see its getting postive review so far.
Nice, gz~~~preordered it last week. After it got pushed away from September then it kinda flew under my radar. Sounds like it's taken a lot of the things that made FC2 great and has improved on them, which is excellent news to me.
10/10 Eurogamer is really, really good
Congrats.
