With its run and gun, 16-bit graphics and 8-bit sounds this looks like a lot of things... but not Contra.

Not visually (though the bullets are teh same), I was talking about the gun mechanics. Least that's what I thought of when watching the clip.

Nah, Contra lets you fire in 8 directions and go prone. I don't think you can do that in SCB. Would be awesome if this got some of Contra's two player action, though.
