Please submit your Door Challenge entries in this thread. This thread is ONLY FOR COMPLETED SUBMISSIONS. Please keep your wip entries in this thread instead, and please remember to attach your screenshots for archival purposes.

You have until the end of the day SUNDAY, MAY 22nd to complete your submission.

    THE RULES:

    Quote

Using the included prefab in the engine of your choice, script a puzzle to creatively open the door! It doesn't matter whether you're entering, exiting, or just moving from one room to another - just get to the other side.As this is a scripting challenge, you are encouraged to use dev textures and only what art assets are absolutely necessary to communicate key ideas.

The challenge will begin Friday, April 29th, and end Sunday, May 22nd at 11:59PM US CENTRAL time (GMT -6)

As always, the submission thread will be opened in the final week of the challenge. Post the following items with your submission:

    • [*:1x9hnrmm]A zip file including your map file
[*:1x9hnrmm]The original level source (and any other relevant files) for inquiring minds to examine your scripting
[*:1x9hnrmm]2 screenshots of your scene (ATTACHED! This will help us archive our entries for posterity )
[*:1x9hnrmm]A video showing the puzzle's intended solution

You will have roughly one week to review all entries and vote at the challenge's conclusion. A single vote will be held for the overall winner. Voters will be allowed to vote for their top 3 entries, and the level that receives the most votes will be declared our winner.

    You may:

    • [*:1x9hnrmm]Use the Source Engine (using the included .vmf file) OR
[*:1x9hnrmm]Use the April 2011 UDK (using the included .udk file) OR
[*:1x9hnrmm]Use another engine of your choosing (using the included .obj file as reference - please scale to approximately match the Source/UDK relative player scale)
[*:1x9hnrmm]Modify the provided template geometry, scripting, lighting, etc. as needed to create your puzzle.

    You MAY NOT:

    • [*:1x9hnrmm]Move the door.
    Display More

Voting will begin Monday or Tuesday next week and last through the weekend. Good luck!

    Hi all,

    Figured I'd just use dropbox.

    Map is here: http://%7boption%7d

I attached three images and vivi said he could possibly help me with the taking of the video.

Let me know what you think.

    Secret Mission

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19887116/door_cj.zip (has .vmf and everything)

About 4 hours of solid work... the puzzle mechanic here is that you have to "script" the entities in-game.

    1) Unzip into \ep2\ or \hl2\ or something, I think it should work with HL2 or Ep1 or Ep2 I think.

    2) Then type "map door_campaignjunkie" in the console.

    3) Incredibly buggy... you basically have to do things exactly as done in the video. It's more of a proof of concept thing.

Here's my "noir mystery adventure puzzle" entry for ep2. In addition to the main puzzle, it features a story which you'll have to figure out too.

[hype]The narrative is kind of like... you have to unlock the door... to your mind [/hype] Playtime is actually around 15 minutes.

    Features the revolutionary Puddialogue™ system!

Walkthrough (I strongly recommend that you play it instead if you can)

    The Vault.

A quickie... You're in a facility and try to steal a bio-hazardous gun but you get locked in instead.

You basically already go past the door you're supposed to get through in the beginning (the vault door), so if this is like... not allowed. Then just skip ahead and regard the beginning as an intro.

    The video should explain everything.

alright, attached is my scene for the door challenge contest, entitled "Daedalus' Revenge".

the scene is a platform at the gates to olympus, and good old daedalus has foiled the gods' hopes of ever seeing a mere mortal again.

    My submission (EP2 MAP):

    Objective: Get in, get out.

    [Blocked Image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1707143/Releases/doorcompetition/shot02.jpg]

    Description:

The concept was in my head for 2 weeks; mapped it like mad since Saturday morning. I wanted to turn the idea of the challenge on its head, and I hope I did that here. Since early play-testing yielded confused players, I felt it necessary to add more visual and audio cues to communicate the premise and solution. I really really really hope people will get the solution without looking at the spoiler.

Solution (It's been hard to get for many playtesters):

    Quote

Grab the crowbar from the case in the first room and break the wood. The light fixture in the second room is like a uvula, so climb up the pipes and throw debris at it twice to get the room to vomit you out.

    Video:

I've got time to make a video, but I really need to go to bed now. I'll get it up tomorrow, I'm just going to put this here tonight.

    Download (again):

Here's an entry in Portal 2. It's a musical lock based on the first couple notes of the tune the turrets sing.
