That plus the low replayability and the short length of the SP 'scripted-corridor-with-infinitely-respawning-NPCs-to-make-you-believe-the-game-is-challenging' mode and the more or less shallow MP mode. (depends on which MP game mode you play of course).

The first CoD games were ace, but from World at War it went drastically downhill.

The whole initial presentation of MW3 felt drawn out and boring, with very little actual shooting. It was more or less on-rails with the occasional "PRESS X TO DO SOMETHING". And the boat-run scene? All baddies got explosive barrels on their boats for some reason. The whole thing felt very "been there, done that", adding nothing new to the MW-franchise. It sure as hell has gone down the shitter since COD4:MW

I know its cool to hate on Modern Warfare, but this seriously does look shit. Graphics are good, yes, but the gameplay looks awful.... It's fucking annoying that they are getting away with recycling the same old stuff over and over. I enjoyed the first few games, but come on.......

Didn't look good to me. All super ultra grey. The explosions look nice but nowadays explosions look nice in every game. Even in ugly ass GTA4 explosions look ace.

IW should look at this video and follow EVERYTHING he says. I promise. Best game ever.

Can someone shed some light on what makes the SP campaign of CoD games any different than Battlefield games? Other than walls exploding and dust galore? Just trying to figure out how BF is almost the exact same game, but gets way more love than CoD.

CoD is over the top, like a B action movie of the 80-ies. Everything is scripted and on a rail, no freedom whatsoever. If you play it a second time, it will play out exactly the same. Can be fun sometimes though "epic" and such...

BF has a more realistic and (biased here) elegant design. Also, it has epic vehicle battles.

I like movement, recoil and etc everything that doesn't remind me of the arcady-ish gameplay of CoD in BF.

Destruction, it's cool and satisfying. Remember the scene of The Matrix with the pillars? Destruction IS cool.

BF is as much CoD as one fighting game is the other, or Forza is DIRT... Fans of the genre will notice the difference by a mile, for others... It's all the same. And recently, people seem to be fed up with the same-ishness of CoD every game, while BF does it differently. Albeit marginally if you're not familiar with shooters.

It's 2 different approaches + a lot of fanboyism. BF is good, but good enough for this hype? And does MW3 deserve to be trashed like this? Dunno, we'll see on release.

    SP? lol

I don't think they get any praise from anyone. It's just people hyping up BF3 because it looks incredible.

Nobody plays Battlefield games for the SP. In fact, until Bad Company there hadn't even been a Battlefield with a SP.

When it comes down to pure multiplayer gameplay and fun — which is what most people are talking about when they compare the two — Battlefield wins hands-down. Much more variety with regards to what you can do, more depth to the gameplay, more emphasis on skill and teamwork (as opposed to just twitch reactions), and of course the best implementations of pretty much all wartime vehicles that any game's ever had.

i actually think what makes bf more popular now is that dice are very considerate towards their fans, and they really listen to what people are saying.

personally i think mw3 is going to be a very fun game regardless. it will be interesting to see how they handle the franchise now that most of IW have gone, so this will actually be quite interesting.

i don't see the big deal, in fact it's pretty impressive and fun to be around during such interesting times in the game industry.

i still hate gamers though, the attitude sickens me, it's just as well i enjoy what i do cause some days i read what people are shitting out their mouths and i want to pack it all in because people don't deserve games when they behave like fucking cunts.

Didn't know that. BFBC2 was the first one of these games I played.

I don't care about multiplayer in shooters. What you say makes sense, but essentially there's no real difference other than collapsing walls and dust from a SP perspective?

Of the Battlefield series, yes. First military shooter I played was World at War...then Modern Warfare 1.

you missed some good times then im afraid. Most of us i think can recall more nostalgic moments with the 64 player servers, roaring planes, unexpected tanks barreling through and rogue jeeps full of people all around you at all times completely unscripted. BC2 had destructibility but not the scale of unpredictable moments that BF2 had. It never played the same twice! so many strategies!

so yeah bf is about multiplayer i think because its unpredictable however i do feel that a sp doesn't hurt. I trust dice, they haven't let me down yet.

Yeah, totally. For me Battlefield has always been the definitive multiplayer shooter experience. There's absolutely no comparison to the epic scale of the maps, the huge numbers of players, the excellent vehicles (makes CoD's vehicles feel like matchbox cars), emphasis on teamplay and classes, realism, etc. Some of my best gaming memories were crafted in Battlefield games, and I think the same goes for many others — hence the widespread love for Battlefield. I appreciate some have been indoctrinated a bit later and appreciate the single-player side of things, but I think it's fair to say the vast majority of people you see showing love for Battlefield are coming from the same history as me.

For me a single Battlefield experience online is more exciting than all the scripted shit you get in any single-player war shooter, because you get the same kind of epic stuff happening — except it's totally unscripted and unpredictable, and you're dealing with the best 'AI' there is. This is why most BF fans aren't remotely interested in the single-player, because you get to enjoy all that crazy action online anyway in gigantic maps that're often literally 20+ times bigger than CoD's maps.

Can't bloody wait for the first proper PC sequel since Battlefield 2142 (and even that was only a refresh of 2005's BF2).

    EA Origin for you then?

I can only assume BF3 PC will be digitally distributed through Origin...

Of course a retail copy would be another option...that would probably require activation through Origin (and to be fair it's going to be activated through something...)

BF2 was fun but there will be no greater times than all night sessions of BF1942 Desert Combat mod.
