Here is s ome stuff i Made last year with Arma 3 engine, with the lack of real map (stratis was the only map released), i tried to model some building to create a close quarter gameplay. I made like 5 buildings, enterable with stairs and few walkable floors. But tools were awfull, i lost interest and reseted my HDD.

Well, I have to agree with you and I am from the company ! Fortunately the ices started moving thanks to DayZ.

There is a huge amount of ice to move to get a smooth engine ^^ I don't think main problem are the tools, but seing the shit a modders have to do to get a single model in game is crazy.

Speaking of Dayz, I just can't get how after 1+ year of dev the game is still not even close to an alpha. I love the mod, but the game is just the biggest deception i had in my entire life...

I just hope BI, with the sales of Dayz and A3, will improve the engine in the good way... A3 is still one of my favourite game, but it lacks so many features and polish.

This is my first post here, this was going to be a map for TF2, but then I started playing CS:GO and felt like mapping for that a lot more. pl_border errybody:

I forgot about this one too , I think I still have some .vmf, if someone want them ask me.

Actually it's pretty hard for me to enjoy making maps, I have high expectation about how my work should look, and it takes me so much time to do something bearable to my eyes, so it's not really fun anymore, plus de fact that I don't have so much time for doing maps, giving up is easier

EDIT: And skacky, about that crazy brushwork, it's an instanced room wich is basicly angled on every edges, I had to finish the details on sd_congo, never finished it, yet

I used the instance technique, from furyo if I remember correctly, I've built all my walls straight, and then carved them with a 22.5° angled brush.

    Moar pics :

I felt like that for many years. It's why I never made a TF2 map.

Try learning a different set of skills like modelling or texturing and then coming back to mapping. You will have more knowledge and give yourself some room to just experiment.

Yeah I would love to learn photoshop and 3Dsmax, but you know, the time, the time ..., especially when I love to procrastinate

I already have a cracked version of 3Dsmax though, the only thing I made back then is a fucking table

Oh man, Imbricatus was a great map. Not because it was fun to play (because the layout had a lot of issues), but I would want to play the thing just so I could look at it. He also made a couple of other TF2 maps that never got to the detailing stage, but gosh are they cool looking regardless.

    Ha thanks bro!

The reason imbricatus was such a massive workload/failure/whatever was because it had zero planning (I knew what I was getting into with that). The only concept I required in my head while making it was to have the layout overlap itself. Other than that, I just would open the map every day and make whatever came into my head until I was happy with it. I was also still learning the tf2 scale - something that threw me off more than Id like to admit. Chateau was a product of trying to visually explain the imbricatus layout overlap via that bridge but I just never finished it.

I will return to chateau in the future - I have so many good ideas for it.
