in regard to the lightmapping issue on models: check out how warby lightmappified my cathedral model for dod_kolsch. it has a lightmap as its primary diffuse texture and a detailmap which in reality was the traditional diffuse map. it works quite well. for more information you should download and decompile the map. then you can figure out, how it was done!
