I've got a new tool out: Sky Writer - Render your 3ds Max scene straight into Source as an HDR sky.

    Tool is updated:

    Version 0.2 (2011-03-15)

    • Fixed default gamma to be set the value of the Gamma spinner. Previously, the gamma was incorrectly set to 2.2 unless you had changed the value of the gamma spinner.

    • Added half-sized (horizontal 2:1) images to file output list. Can be manually swapped out with current 1:1 images by renaming and running compile. Named same as corresponding side but suffixed with "_half".

    • Added 4x4 pixel copy of Down image that can be used for the down image by swapping/renaming to the down texture name and recompiling. Named same as the down image but suffixed with "_tiny".

I've made a new series on working with your 3D skybox and 2D sky renders in 3ds Max and Wall Worm.

    Introduction/Table of Contents

    Getting Started With Your Sky

    Making Your 3D Skybox

Your 2D Sky and Sky Writer

Also, there was a recent update that added compatibility with CS:GO in Sky Writer. For a while I couldn't get the settings right for CS:GO, but now there is an option called Sky in Sky Writer. Turn this on to export with the Sky Shader. Keep off to export with UnlitGeneric (which is needed in the case of CS:GO).

The 2D/3D sky tools in Wall Worm are possibly two of the most overlooked cool features in WW. Hopefully these new docs will help people understand how to use them.
