In honor of the late Giger, I watched Prometheus for the first time. Why do I feel like one of the few people that actually, thoroughly enjoyed it?

There were a few little, I guess you'd call them plot holes, but goddamn I loved that movie. Seriously loved it. Cannot wait for the sequel.

It's visually stunning, audio is great, it has superb acting and great production values. It has everything to make it a timeless classic expect for the fact that the script got butchered leaving us with an decimated, dumb, unrealistic and basically stupid movie that insults the viewers intelligence every step of the way.

I really enjoyed it too, but I'm coming from the perspective of someone who's never watched Alien and had no expectations whatsoever regarding Prometheus. As a slightly philosophical sci-fi horror (albeit quite restrained), I enjoyed it. I guess if you were looking for something much deeper from it you might be disappointed, I understand it's meant to provide some kind of Alien lore backdrop. But as a standalone piece I liked it, and I thought that its story was a nice self-contained bit of drama.

Thrik, I'd be interested to get your opinion on Alien after having watched Prometheus. You're probably one of the few people that are actually gonna watch these 2 films in chronological order (as in, Prometheus being the prequel). Let us know what you think; I can't believe you haven't seen Alien!

I can see where you're coming from, but I think you might be overstating things.

Seconding the part about superb acting, at least from Noomi Rapace. That chick can ACT!

Problem is it was advertised as the Alien prequel, so there were certain expectations.I didn't love it, but i enjoyed it, in fact i'm planning to watch it again, maybe just before Alien (which I've never seen yet!).

I found it interesting but as Thrik says, i understand why so many people were bummed. Then there are those with relgious beliefs that hated it for that aspect (which is probably the one i liked the most in the narrative - as an atheist).

Yeah me neither, but when i was a kid and I started watching these sort of movies, the third was coming out, so i watched that, the fourth, then Aliens... but I always waited for the most definitive edition to come out and enjoy the first one in HD.

How? I never felt insulted by the movie lol

I love Prometheus and don't get the hate it receives. But that's because since I'm not an Alien aficionado, I can ignore the "inconsistencies" and enjoy the movie for what it is.

There's like 3 really dumb things some of the characters do that was enough to enrage everyone it seems. It also being schizophrenic as to whether it's actually part of the alien series is weird. The rest is fine.

Still one of the best openings in a sci fi movie and fun to watch.

You do need to have intelligence in order to be insulted Minos

But seriously, the critique has nothing to do with the Alien canon. I'm also not a guy that over analyzes every part but this was just too obvious to miss. There are tons of sites out there that do a much better job in explaining why but here's a nice little movie that sums it up pretty well (for the record, I do not agree with everything in this movie):

Hell I've been fighting an upward battle with my view that Sophia Coppola is a pox to the film artform.

Geez... freaking coincidence. I decided to watch Alien the other day o_o. Not because of Giger death (maybe a little) but because of Aliens: Isolation. Wanted to check how similar the game was to the set design in the movie (it's pretty impressive). Alien... doesn't seem to age because of that.

Seems like everybody's on the same page haha. My dad hated Prometheus first... and watched it a second time to like it. I should probably do the same. I just felt like the "super scientists" they brought on the ship were complete idiot -__-. That annoyed me for some reason.
