    Dude, I know I know I know I know.....

I really really tried but it was boring as fuck to me.

I understand it's all about his failed attempts to connect and his complete and utter loneliness. How he slowly drifts away and how it ultimately ends. But still, for the life of me, after 4 tries I just stopped giving a damn. Clearly it's not meant for me.

Well that's totally understandable dude, i think i have a thing for long, contemplative and ultimately boring movies where nothing happens. I learned tolerance when my poor girlfriend finally hated Apocalypse now after 3 hours and fell asleep after 1h of barry lyndon

I was going go say, like two times per day at least ~

I well understand Sprony's feeling: I didn't like at all The Deer Hunter — and question a bit all that "message" that it is supposed to transmit.

Yeah, but I can't lay my finger on the problem. Apocalypse Now is one of my favorites and time isn't an issue there. It's an experience that takes you deeper and deeper into the madness. Almost surreal. So I'm with you on that. It's probably just a matter of preference. Same with Drive, people were all praising it and I found it very dull and boring movie :S

Snowpiercer is pretty good! Just don't take it literally like most of your sci-fi movies, it's riddled with symbolism.

Fmpone I know they have always been critically acclaimed, but frankly I don't like Apocalypse Now because it is excessively fictitious, while Deer Hunter I think it's objectively flawed in its course of events, making it terrible in how it tells the story.

That they have messages it's undeniable, but I think there are other movies that did it better.

Addendum: i guess I also simply don't like Coppola, not that I want to talk about a distinctive style but I simply didn't like most of his movies that I've seen.

Luckily he didn't fuck up that one, i love the Rainmaker! Say I'm biased* but I don't want to give Coppola much credit for that. Have you read the book? It's basically a ready made script. And just compare it to any other movie based on Grisham's novels: they're all good films, they're all true to the novels, it's just that stories got weaker, like the books did (I've read them all – Rainmaker is Grisham's apex).

Same with Godfather, read the book, the movie is a scene by scene transposition.

When it was time to use some creativity he failed.

*I cannot forgive him for filming that utter shit that is Dracula.

He mangled one of my childhood best memories.

I can accept some resistance to apocalypse now. It's a demanding watch and can test your patience but it's one of the greats so you might just have to eventually come to terms with your bad taste.

Also I wouldn't be so dismissive about the source material. Painting Coppola as the port-studio equivalent of a film maker is some pretty damning shit. My goodness. Patton was quite good and disqualifies at least that portion of your argument.

I haven't read shit from Grisham but I'll go out on a limb and say he ain't a high water mark for PROSE FICTION. What's usually regarded as low-brow reading is often turned into high-art films, not because the source was so good but the film turned it into something more. Like The Shining.

But I like Godfather III so maybe I'm not the best one to talk to about this.

Transcendence - Very forgettable movie, the premise was pretty nice but you can tell the people who made the movie had only a very superficial understanding of how things work. In the end it's a very dumbed down movie, maybe people who never read any scifi stories might find it interesting (which I doubt since the pacing is very slow and the characters shallow and uninteresting). I was never a Johnny Derp fan but this movie only shows how he usually doesn't give a crap when acting. I dunno, maybe he's just a bad actor.

Don't get me wrong, this is not a horrible movie but in a few weeks nobody will remember it ever existed.

    4/10

House of Cards 2 - Just as great as the first season, great stuff!

I'm trying to finish watching all 24 seasons before the new one, I'm on 5 right now and I just swore blind that I saw John McCain walk into the CTU briefing room.... turns out I was right!
