    hiphop is only 30 years old so i guess that would be a little far fetched? tarrentino is known for using ''unfitting'' music in his films tho, it has become one of his trademarks even.

    I've been sick at home this week so I tried Boardwalk Empire. I just finished the second season. I absolutely love it. If you like gangsters, the prohibition era, bootlegging and you can appreciate high production values and good acting, then this show is for you.

    The Hobbit: excellent film.

    I went in with tempered expectations after seeing some comments about it being a bit weirdly paced and stuff, and I can honestly say that it delighted me to watch. It's the same Middle Earth we all loved in Lord of the Rings, but from a completely different perspective. For those who didn't read the books like me it's great discovering more about characters like Gandalf and the other wizards I had very little idea even existed, as well as helping to provide a bit of foundation for the LOTR to sit on (although I suspect some of this was exaggerated beyond what the book described).

    Seeing some old characters return was simply lovely. I knew of some, not of others — highly recommended to go in as blind as possible so you can enjoy the same surprises. And all the new cast members are superb, the Dwarf leader dude is a terrific actor who just 5 or so years ago only really featured in shitty UK dramas. What a career break that he totally deserves. Generally great acting all round though, and I was genuinely taken aback to see so much performance from beastly creatures I just assumed were too unintelligent to speak.

    Great film, but don't go in expecting a standalone epic masterpiece like LOTR. The Hobbit simply isn't a story that grand in scope, although what happens is still awesome. I'd say if anything it's a movie that gives the smaller aspects of Middle Earth more life, the smaller battles and creatures that go unnoticed in the grand world-ending dramatics of LOTR.

    On a technical note, when I first started watching it I was really distracted by the slow pans of Middle Earth's landscapes. I was watching in a regular 24 FPS 2D cinema screen, and it seemed like something was off with the pans — I couldn't focus my eyes on them properly. Maybe it's because the shutter speed used for shooting is different when shooting at 48 FPS, so when you half the frame rate you end up with a bit of a mess? Or maybe I just wasn't used to it, I don't know. I can't remember it bothering me later in the film so maybe it was just that.

    Hobbit - Pretty average for me, expected too much, well at least there to be a story. Should of been 1 or 2 movies not 3. Gona see the next one though, still good entertainment when your not asleep.

    Bourne Identity - Still awesome, nuff said

    I don't even want to see Django after Inglorious Basterds. I honestly think the dude has lost his way. He's become hyper-aware of his own sensibilities and the sensibilities of everyone else that he seems fixated on creating things nobody else but him could ever possibly create, for the sake of it. This sounds fucking stupid typing it but I think it's true.

    If I just stop at Jackie Brown goddamn what a perfect triangle of films. Jackie Brown is absolutely his prime, everything in that movie just comes off so perfectly and effortlessly without a fuckin hitch. It's a masterwork. But everything from Kill Bill on has just lost me. I'm sure he's having a fucking blast making this shit, and it shows, but it's clearly a very different part of his legacy at this point. He pretty much pulled a 90 degree turn after Jackie Brown and went way the fuck somewhere else I don't even know where.

    But who am I kidding I'm gonna watch that shit cause it's probably still better than most everything else out there anyway.

    I won't despute how bad Kill Bill was. I thought that whole concept was idiotic.

    That said, inglorious bastards was a good film. Maybe not incredible, but a very valid movie artistically.

    The cinematography, writing, and acting of Christopher Waltz in IB is as good or better than almost any Tarantino film. The plot isn't the strongest, I admit, but Waltz's character is really strong. He has a field day with that role. The way some of the scenes are shot is ingenious and story-bookish with this highly crafted feel. IB may not be Tarantino's best film, but it is definitely one of his most polished and well crafted films. The problem with Tarantino is his stories have gotten more and more basic. Pulp Fiction had a few really compelling love stories alongside the standard Tarantino violence. That emotional side continued in Brown, and hasn't really returned since. I think that's the biggest criticism of his stuff from me, starting with Resevoir Dogs he became more in love with violence, which only became a big issue in Kill Bill, where he just went Full Retard. Death proof, kill bill, IB and Django to some extent suffer from this simple minded ness.

    As I see it Django is sort of a weaker film than IB, but it's not terrible. It's a noticeable but not painful decline. If you can't have fun with it, you're thinking a bit too much IMO. Leonardo, surprisingly, has the strongest performance. Everyone else is completely forgettable, especially Jamie fox, who was never much of an actor anyway. Waltz was a bore.

    Where I agree with you especially that Tarantino has lost his way, is in how he thinks about his own films. He's become reactionary. To me it's obvious that he felt, after IB, he needed, having made Germans look like dog shit, to have a self-less German hero (in Django). There's all this German imagery and references in Django for literally no convincing reason, and it comes across as Tarantino winking to the audience that "not all Germans are bad" as if they are idiots who didn't come to that conclusion on there own. It's like he saw his cinema history become historically simple, and felt the need to go back and tidy it up or "balance it". It's sort of a gross feeling, like he's thinking about the political ramifications of his work. I see a lot of Django as a reaction to IB. It's like he's trying to correct himself. In a way, that's a form of repeating yourself, in this case to a lesser result.

    Finally up to date with Game Of Thrones...

    Yup, finally going over the second season now too. The first 2 or 3 episodes are quite slow but then it picks up the pace again Definitely one of the best series I have ever seen~
