This is a topic I tend to idly think about often: Dream games, or developer match-ups with franchises or concepts. Recently on the Giant Bomb podcast Jeff Gerstmann mentioned propositioning Sega with "Make a new Night Trap game, but get Telltale to make it", and it's got me thinking about the topic again. I figure it might make for a fun discussion.

    Some examples to start:

Obisdian and Crytek should collaborate on making an open world game. Crytek makes the world and engine, Obsidian populates it with characters, quests, and story. Maybe borrow the STALKER license for it, to add an extra "uber-PC" touch.

Grasshopper Manufacter should make a modern Gunstar Heroes, using lessons learned from making the No More Heroes games. They can be hit or miss (They made Fatal Frame 4 and I hated that, terrible controls) but I'm optimistic.

Criterion (Burnout devs) should make a Carmaggedon. I mean, come on. Obvious, right? The whole time I played Burnout Paradise I was looking out the corner of my eye for pedestrians and powerups.

    nice daydreaming =)

i think turtle rock studios (l4d, l4d2, some work for cs:s) should team up with rockstar games (gt4, rdr) and remedy studios (alam wake, max payne) to make an open world zombie survival game. remedy studios would be given control of the storyline and ambience, turtle rock should be focussing on the mechanics, zombietypes, weapons and characteristics and rockstar would be in control of the lay-out and the diversity of the environment. =)

i think red orchestra 2: heroes of stalingrad is coming pretty close to what would be perfect to me though..!

A thread about "what's your original game idea" would be full of boring long posts made by people like you though. Nobody wants to read all that.

I've got a nice idea I've talked about with friends about a survival horror paranormal investigator game set in the Pennsylvania/New Jersey area, but describing why that ISN'T terrible would sure take a while.

Ugh why would you want rockstar involved though. I hate their style of open world game, where you basically have two separate modes of play: Running around doing nothing in particular, and being on controlled linear missions that cut off your access to some stuff and have to be beaten right that moment in one go. I much prefer the Bethesda/GSC "add the mission to your task list, go handle it at your leisure while you go about your day" style. I've got this image in my head of Rockstar making a Dead Rising game and forcing you to sequentially, one by one, save the survivors in the mall.

for the exact same reason, what makes you think people would want to read this?

at least with original ideas, you'll have the chance to see something new instead of the same old rehashes done by different companies. let's never go outside the caves.

Trying to turn that around doesn't really work, bro. This is a thread about short, thought provoking concepts, like "Telltale makes a Night Trap game". See how short that is? But so evocative.

Troika needs to exist again and make anything they want.

Toys For Bob needs to just make a REAL star control 3. I don't care if it still looks l ike SC2. Just evolved gameplay

I would agree with both of those. All I would want from a new Star Control is simply more stuff to do. I've got this weird gut feeling though that if they did make another Star Control it'd have some starcraft inspired elements in it, because that's what's big in space games, and the setting and visual style would easily allow for it, and I'm bad at RTS's that aren't Sacrifice.

Speaking of which, another Sacrifice title. You could even make a console RTS out of Sacrifice. I think that might've been what Brutal Legend had, but I only played the demo.

yeah, good point..! agreed on this one though i'd still love to see an open world fps zombie survival/horror game with the ability to team up online and to have upgradeable npc's in singleplayer mode.

    also: don't feed the troll

lmao, thought provoking. keep thinking that. you could show new game concepts in a single sentence as well, without the "like ... but". never mind that though, it actually requires thinking to create.

ITT: People enjoyed games and would like to play updated versions of them, the unimaginative freaks.

Sega need to make another Streets of Rage, and they can give it to Platinum Games or Arc System Works (or me). Keep it a 2D brawler with modern fighting game snazziness dropped in, and avoid the mistakes of Final Fight: Streetwise. Yuzo Koshiro is doing retro XBLIG right now so I'm sure he can be coaxed in.

You just described what Dead Island is supposed to be, I think, though I could be missing something. Apparently it's an open world, story driven first person survival horror with level ups and perks for RPG elements, and drop in online coop with up to four people. Primarily melee based combat instead of guns though. I've listened to a couple podcasts with games journalists describing it and they seem to mostly be gravitating to "Open world L4D on a tropical resort". Nobody has really described what the story part is going to be though.

    you guys are so unimaginative!

i want to see a game where you play as a marine, in space, who has to save the world.
