Ditto.
yeap. or well, my motivation to play isn't high enough to go through origin to actually play it. suck it, EA
-
Okay I installed origin. I've clicked on the purchase button a couple of times for BF3, but every time I am about to insert my credit card I get cold feet.
I'm really not sure if I want to marry origin. I cant even set the language to english properly on there.

this is one of those cases where i wholeheartedly endorse a monopoly ... bring it to STEAM or no purchase !

My only real problem, now that I've installed Origin, is that it's pretty pointless for BF3. All you basically use it for is to open a browser where you have Battlelog running, which launches the game. Feels pretty damn redundant in the case of BF3.
BTW, played Caspian Border last night. Sooo goood~~~~~ fapfap~and it runs great even with 64 players~

Hope you don't have a monthly bandwidth cap.

The sole reason I switched to Sky Broadband
After downloading overnight for the third time, its installed and working. Game is good, battlelog integration is utter crap. Can't change settings outside of being in a live server! Being killed takes you out of the menu's to select deploy is utterly frustrating and you cant get back till you've respawned

So, Origin is a heap of shit.Started downloading last night, got to 50%, left pc on overnight, came back to nothing downloaded. Started again, got to 50%, turned pc off and went to work. Came back, downloaded for 2 hours more and it gets to 100%. There it stays for an hour, until it gets to 4.7GB/3.9GB downloaded. Then it goes back to 80%, then after half an hour 60%, then after half an hour it drops down to 40%. It's now saying 44% downloaded, 1.8GB downloaded despite the fact my origin BF3 folder is 4.7GB now.

With all of Steam's issues, at least it downloads and tells me an appropriate amount of time remaining. Origin says 0 mins to go.
That sounds like their load balancers are broken.
Usually with services like this you've several physical servers (a server farm). In order to avoid having the clients connect directly to these servers the clients instead connect to a load balancer that in turn redirects those connections to one of the servers in the farm (usually the one being less used). If the load balancer fails in the middle of a big download the client might get a download completed message when in fact only part of the file is completed.
In other words it seems like EA misjudged the amount of load that their servers would have to handle, or that they are using cheap hardware.
Steam is actually very efficient in this area. They've several servers all across the world, when you start a connection you connect to a primary load balancer that uses a geospatial service to determine what's the server farm closer to you, it then redirects you to the load balancers of that farm which redirect you to the best server available in that farm at the moment. I'm guessing that they also have several load balancers per farm to provide more redundancy in case one of them fails.

Those points you raised were some of the most complained about in the Alpha, as well as the utterly crap Squad system, I'm very surprised to see they got 0 attention for this beta.
I spent a lot of time yesterday playing Caspian Boarder. It was absolutely epic, everything I had hoped for. Even though we spent most of the time in separate squads me and my friends still managed to work together and pretty much dominate our team. I'm so pumped for the release of this game now, it couldn't come sooner

It's the 29th. Where's mah beta?

It's up now on Origin, but don't be surprised that you won't be able to download it until next millenia. Direct link (hammer F5) : http://store.origin.com/promo?promoID=8 ... nkid=free#

I like those odds. /downloads

I need a product key? Where do I get that?

EDIT: origin was bugged... nvm, downloading! remote-desktoping from work so that it's done when I get home

-
beta installed, installing the new Nvidia drivers.
Should we make a mapcore platoon?
-
14 minutes remaining, but this room is now a goddamn sauna due to stupid British Summer part 2 so I hope it's worth playing even if there is a 50/50 chance of passing out.

-
I tried BF3 on the PUSS3, unplayable

Cant see shit.
-
Apparently all the servers are changing map soon so I cannot join.

Had a couple of rounds on Operation Metro. God damn, the sound team at DICE does not disappoint, making my woofer work hard. It's clear from the start that it's going to take considerable amount of time to unlock new weapons, gadgets, etc. Engineer being my favorite class, the first unlock is an anti-air rocketlauncher, which can't be fired without a lock (booooo!). So one has to find a Caspian Border server. Still some all-kits weapons are unlocked as you rank up; got the 870 shotgun and Glock (with laserpointer!) so far. Also rockets have considerable drop down range, but that doesn't stop me from blowing up the subway getting multikills, harr harr. Got to get used to the thought that you CAN prone now, compared to Bad Company.
Oh and the game looks great! But this being a beta, it has the bug of you often glitching through the ground in the outdoor areas, and there is also fullscreen flicker sometimes, dunno if happens for anyone else.
Hint: Melee key is F by default. Hold F to deploy knife.
