Discussed this today with a couple of colleagues, but I am very intrigued with the precise release date of BF3. My guess is that they'll definitely release it in early to mid October, more or less the same time as when Medal of Honor was released last year. However, as I think most people here will agree that EA actually has the superior multiplayer experience, so what if they actually went completely head to head with COD, releasing on the same day in the regular November slot? If they really want to try and dethrone them that would be a very strong message to send, and if most shooter fans are drooling more over BF than COD then they might just steal enough to deflate their launch significantly, especially if it comes out with weak scores compared to BF. Even then it goes without saying that there is absolutely zero chance that BF3 will outsell the next COD, but still.
I seriously doubt that EA would do this though, but I'm just very interested in seeing how they're actually handling this. This has got to be the thing that they're most focused on for this entire year.

That music really syncs up with everything.

It's the new Guile Theme.

Pretty clever viral move
-
Blizzard's been doing the same thing for D3 but with "new" pictures.
-
I hate this kind of stuff, won't contribute

Looking forward to the vids though.

it's like declaring bankruptcy in marketing. no thanks, i won't hype you product unless you throw something at me, you lazy dicks.
-
Agreed. Lamest practice ever.

So far I think they've been pretty aggressive and sharp with their marketing, unloading a new video every second week and making a fairly big splash at GDC, wouldn't call that being lazy considering that the game isn't out for another 6 months.
I'll admit that it's hardly a very classy move doing something like this, in fact its borderline Zynga tactics, encouraging spam of your friends. However it completely plays into what DICE has been doing with the Battlefield games for a while now, having the community work towards a goal to unlock new content, trying to build a feeling of it being a bigger thing. Though right now it seems highly unlikely that it'll reach 1 million before Thursday, so it could blow up in their face

so you're saying that because it's more of what they've done before, it is automatically justified? ill have to politely disagree.
also the way you use the words sharp and aggressive makes me think that their marketing department is a bunch of monkeys with newly acquired swords.

I think you need to be fairly aggressive when you're going up against the strongest franchise in the business, and I'm sure EA has their absolute top men (top...men) working on this. Anyway, I'm drinking their cool-aid and you're not

hm where did I put that haters gonna hate picture again...
-
Well what's the alternative Skjalg? I'll re-iterate on what I've said on this forum before.
Judge things fast and hard.

Haha can't believe you guys are moaning about this. Social Network marketing is the digital equivalent of word of mouth, and its gonna do wonders for Battlefield 3.
