It looks like yet another modern warfare game in the middle east.

Yeah, but it's Battlefield. It pretty much kicked off the modern warfare craze yet has been brave enough to also do a World War 2 and sci-fi version since then too. It's allowed.

TBH this has immediately shot to the very top of my anticipation list. I mean, you just can't beat the true PC Battlefield formula — not even with Bad Company 2. No other game delivers anything like it and even when they try they don't do it nearly as well as Battlefield. The Original. The best.

I was also very pleased to hear the PC is the lead platform for BF3.

Man. DICE's engine really is looking incredible. I agree about the lighting — probably the finest I've seen yet.

Still unclear how much single-player factors into everything, but I'm not worried about it having a negative effect on the quality of the multiplayer experience. DICE is far from a small studio and can easily handle both, and everything I've heard about BF3 indicates they're taking delivering the PC multiplayer we all want seriously.

I do hope we see more maps in beautiful locations like China and stuff like we did in BF2, rather than just the Middle East. Also I want the commander role back.

BF also pretty much pioneered the unlock system, so frankly as long as they come up with more innovation it's all good.

Battlefield 2 wasn't the first to do it — and if we want to get really pedantic PlanetSide did it before Enemy Territory — but it certainly popularised it and was responsible for it becoming such an integral part of modern multiplayer. It was probably inevitable as the whole concept is lifted straight from RPGs, but Battlefield did it exceedingly well (particularly in BF2142) and was one of the most popular games to ever hit the PC platform.

In BF2 it initially took ages to get anything tho, they made it faster with a patch later which meant most people got 2 free upgrades

But yeah, the rumours so far points to this year's COD being kind of a Frankenstein game, 3 different developers on it and such. If they have to dethrone COD then this definitely seem like the right year to strike.

cod did a lot of things very right - i imagine it was a very fun project to work on while in it's prime.

really they just seemed to take the best bits of other games that existed before and create a super game. i'm sure there's more to it than that but that's just my offensive summing up; my point is that alogn with being a sort of remix game, and that most of the game-buying public are retards, it could be very possible to beat CoD, as long as you don't try and simply copy what CoD did.

That looks like... if I was there o___O

Cool stuff. I love how the game has strong contrasts between shadow and light but still looks natural and pleasant to the eye.

i like how more and more developers have started to get the memo that global illumination is important to good looking visuals but also that precalculated lightmaps are a cock sucking nightmare work-flow killer.

    GI is overrated.

I don't get why some people say that. Isn't GI what happens in real life? So therefore if you can implement/fake that it's gonna look more lifelike? So why wouldn't you want that?

I don't get it, it looks fabulous.

The only battlefield game I ever played was the 2142 MP demo, which I absolutely hated due to the 1 person per 1000 acre gameplay. Someone please tell me the more recent games contained a game.
