    Jenn0_Bing: haha

I'm not a fan of those covers, and if the karkand dlc talk is true then... bleh. I hate paid for DLC that separates players.

Its not paid dlc, it comes with all of the games, its not free to those who buy the game used.

those who purchase the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition will receive the 'Back to Karkand' expansion pack "at no extra charge."

    Doesn't sound like it.

Yeah its been confusing as shit, but its been the way EA has marketed all of there games for the last 2 1/2 years. All of the standard games are limited editions. They try to make the market feel special or something.

It seems to be becoming a somewhat established tactic to make retail copies of games de facto special versions, which include DLC that really should be considered part of the original purchase — and is. It's just to discourage piracy and reselling.

I have to say that I like what 2142 did with classes. In my opinion BF2 was just a bit too heavy on classes, whereas 2142 condensed it somewhat and effectively made each class into two by providing two distinct unlock paths. It worked well IMO, similarly to how you start with a base class in Team Fortress 2 but can use unlocks to change the actual role of the class significantly. I think bombarding players with too many choices to start off with is a bad thing, and adding depth to the game via unlocks which are alternatives and not necessarily upgrades is just one of the things Battlefield has pretty much pioneered.

Bad Company 2 did seem to be a step too far when it comes to class conglomeration, but I didn't spend much time with it so I don't think it's fair for me to comment on what effect it had on the gameplay.

One thing I find with BC2 is that I always play as Medic... Some maps don't have vehicles so you would never play as Engineer. Assault is pointless when defending.. And Recon is just rubbish.

You can easily rack up points as Medic and Assault, but the other 2 are a lot harder to get high on the scoreboard with.

... We should probably agree to disagree on this point, then I don't like what Valve has done with TF2. They took a game with well-defined, easy to understand roles and then needlessly complicated it with a million different stupid items, imo.

As recon you take any of the automatic shotguns and use motion mines to scout the way ahead of yourself and flank the baddies. The kill count you can rack up is pretty ridiculous by playing like this.

This is the same problem I have as well Pogo. I love playing medic though but I get tired of having to use the light machine guns all of the time. I would love to have kit selections based on your user account similar to 2142, but more about choosing your secondary kit or mastery.

you would be surprised how easy it can be with any class to get 5:1 if you just give the gun some time to grow on you, its all about using slightly different tactics.

Overall I think the classes in BC2 work out quite nicely, although I completely agree that there's some odd design choices with starting without your primary tools and having to earn them. I kinda get what they were trying, but it just made it a bitch when you wanted to play medic in the beginning and just couldn't. Another thing that annoy me is that C4 has been tied to the recon class. Loved playing Spec ops in BF2, running in between a pile a of tanks while they were capturing a point and just plaster C4 on em and detonate while running away. Only times I've had that in BC2 were when I switched to the Thompson or something on the recon kit, hate playing sniper :G

Also, more than 4 in a squad would be nice, and an absolute must I'd say for PC w. 64 player servers

Ok, me and my housemate sat and played BC2 a lot tonight. We have done it before and had great fun, but tonight was definitely not our night.

It just seemed that no matter what we did, we couldn't do anything to win. We are decent players and I think my KD ratio is around 1.5.. Around 1500 kills to 1000 deaths. But it has just left me in an absolutely terrible mood

We both tried out Vietnam and found it to be absolutely diabolical... There is practically no cover and the levels are so open that the game is completely dominated by snipers. We played as Medic/Recon to try and counter the sniper situation, but still found ourselves losing.

So we switched back to BC2 and the same sorta thing was happening. I got shot from around 30 metres away by a guy with the Spas shotgun. Wtf?

My perspective on BC2 has completely changed tonight...

See, I've had shitty sessions like that too. It just depends. Sometimes the teams get terrible unbalanced, and it's just dying every 30 seconds for the whole round. But when the teams have about the same skill level, and you're with a squad that has at least some idea what they're doing, it's awesome.

I was trying to think, how could they balance the teams? I understand friends and clans want to play together, but there has to be some way to redistribute the players based on skill. Rank isn't a great indicator of skill, more how much time you've put into the game. Maybe offering some sort of temporary bonus to the losing team, like a radar scan or some other subtle advantage to the losing team?

And the 30 yard shotgun kill was probably with slugs, which gives the shotgun crazy damage and accuracy. It's hard to use, I haven't had much luck with it.

I've seen some people rock with the engineer class - the SMGs are really great on the move, and your rocket launcher can be used to take out people behind cover, being a rocket sniper is awesome with destructible cover.

The long range shotgun sniping is fucking awful. Its that stupid level perk shot guns get. I prefer servers with class limitations, so there can only be 1 or 2 snipers per team. Makes the game a million times more fun. But it sucks when u want to play a class but then can't :/
