Now, we just need the following:- Balanced Jets

    - Good hit detection

    - Inability to nadespam

    - Non-CoD Gunplay (MoH... man was that pure shit)

    - No nonsensical dolphindiving

    - No 3D-spotting bullshit

... and we should be good to go!

Sweeeet. I'll be waiting to see how the handling is, BF2 and BC2 have a very different feel from one another, I'm rather fond of BC2 at the moment.

    What made BF2 great:

Big open maps that could have several combat zones dotted around them, no real linearity.

Playing with friends in a squad THAT'S BIGGER THAN 4.

Taking a buggy and literally going off behind enemy lines.

Being your own unit with a group of friends and being allowed to make a difference by yourselves by capping points.

Lots of classes, none of this condensed and unified rubbish.

No one hit kill knife that doesn't even obey the laws of player visibility.

Anti tank weapons took skill, no auto aim tracer rounds.

    Took several shots to die.

    No blood obscuring your vision.

    Going prone.

    No 3d auto spotting.

Reliance on a commander for support that actually mattered.

    Hit indicator.

No stupid bodyarmour or magnum rounds for fat noobs.

And the best one of them all; a huge array of choices. A good portion of today's popular mutliplayer games feel too limiting and constrained. Fucking consoles man.

BC2 has a hit indicator, it takes several shots to die unless you're playing in Hardcore mode, what's bad about the body armor and magnum rounds?

I liked the smaller maps, it meant more time actually fighting and less dicking around hiking to the next point.

The condensed classes is partly a side effect of the smaller squads, but with the customizable kits, I never felt limited by it.

Three other people seems easier to keep track of.

I liked spotting, it's certainly useful.

Commander from BF2 was cool, but if you got a bad one, it fucked everyone on the team.

I'll agree with you on the knife, that's pretty hilarious. I've stabbed dudes through walls before.

Using anti-tank tracers takes some teamwork, although they could probably make it so you can't just fire straight up with a missile and still land hits, even behind cover. It does help to balance out tanks.

I will agree with someone up there that some of the spawns are deathtraps, where a slightly better team can completely bottle up the other team. There's just a few maps like that, but holy hell can that be frustrating.

I'm just not so sure about jets and fast movers. They've always been a part of Battlefield, but my experience with them in BF2 and BF: Vietnam was when someone with any skill got in one, there was no way to touch them. You just got killed over and over again by something you could do almost nothing about.

I dunno, it's just my opinion, I never got into BF2 like I did Bad Company 2. And I'm playing it on the PC. The pacing seems so much better, faster.

Class consoldiation was the best fucking thing BC2 did for the series, going back to 1942 and taking it even further to make every class feel like they each had a substantial place. Engineers with just shotguns fuck off with that shit.

FP melee is generally shit, no need to prolong this. 1 hit knife kills solves this problem.

What a great way to introduce a mechanic that, for the player who takes the extra effort, gets an almost dead on shot against tanks, and even choppers. Great example of infantry class balance Vs. vehicles. Bravo DICE.

Adds to choice, more granular counters to other loadouts.

BC2 is the best multiplayer game after its grandfather 1942, not that bloated mess we call BF2.

did you seriously just ask whats wrong with magnum rounds. They completely imbalance the game and pretty much force everyone who wants to fight with any weapon without headshots to use it. That's what is wrong with it, bc2 basically copied the WORST thing from mw2.

no. Just no. BC2 is a great game but please for the love of god do not claim that magnum rounds is a good idea. It shows a complete inability to consider balancing.

An almost inconsequential amount of extra damage. It's a joke load out that everyone fell for.

edit: it is not in the same league as MW's stopping power. Not even close.

1-2 bullets, maybe? Who gives a shit. It's not a game breaker. Especially in HC, where it's even further diluted.

Class consolation was boring for me, end of. I like diversity and choice. Kind of why I don't just put all my food into a blender, you know? And the shotgun on the engineer was one of the best guns in the game.

Have you even used BC2's knife?? Half the time it never works, but when it does it may as well be an insta kill attack from god of war... oh wait it is! You press it and it spins the view around and locks on for you while you just watch. The BEST part however, is it makes you invincible while it goes through the attack. Please. It's bullshit.

Yeah, ok, I'll just try and save my only spawning tank on the map that we need to push with in order to take the objective while 20 guided missiles fly at me from the other side of the map shall I? Yeah. Fantastic!

That's ok, people need to have their hand held and be given ridiculous extras like mag rounds or else they won't be able to kill jack.

I was still learning new skills in BF2 two and a half years after it came out -- that's the sort of longevity and nuanced gameplay I go for. I also agree that class consolidation sucks as it really muddies the waters. You can't look at someone and figure out how to work with them or beat them so readily. I much prefer it when the the class roles are more rigid, characters have recognisable silhouettes/uniforms and a limited range of weapons/kit per class. In BC2 it's more like generic solider has generic weapons.

Also, I really don't like the unlock system in BC2. First of all, you start with nothing and it takes time to get the most basic shit to even be able to contribute. No medpacks or shock paddles when playing medic until you unlock them? Really? However, once you're about 10 hours in, it's raining unlocks at a rate that you can't figure out which ones are good or bad because it takes ages to try them all out. Throw in the generic solider loadouts and it's just.. too much stuff with no clearly recognisable boundaries.

Shooters going down this route just add artificial complexity, in my opinion. All of the unlock permutations != complexity / longevity short of putting the hours in to unlock the next trinket. BF2 had little in the way of that bloat (just the odd unlockable gun), yet its gameplay was much more expansive, nuanced and varied. It had its flaws (medic revive trains, grenade spam, claymores, chopper/jet dominance) but it was still a much better game overall.

I didn't really think about the clarity of the classes, knowing at a glance what you're facing, that's a good point.

The unlocks could certainly be spaced out more and a little harder to get, I've unlocked almost everything around level 22, but then there'd be complaints of having to grind for weapons.

How was the gameplay more nuanced and expansive in BF2? I'm genuinely curious. Maybe it's all aesthetics, but BC2 feels more... solid. It just feels like I'm in a badass war movie. Hopefully they can at least keep that visceral feel of shooting and running in BF3. Movement and foot combat in BF 2 just felt artificial to me. I know, that's hard to quantify and back up.

I think that's a fair point about the solidity of combat (BF2's infantry felt a bit floaty), but I still preferred the style of play. I'm just not a fan of games with extremely accurate guns that kill at all ranges.

How was the gameplay more nuanced and expansive in BF2

It was mainly down to the 64 player maps + extra vehicles, plus the gun handling in BF2 was more challenging to learn due to the much more pronounced bullet drop & bullet travel time. In BC2 it's basically just "aim gun directly at dude who is 20 miles away, fire gun until dead, repeat". This part is definitely personal preference, though. I just much preferred having to flank & mug people rather than having a CS style head-on brawl with super accurate guns. Prone was badly implemented, but even that made the combat more varied. I personally loved it as a lot of people had prone-itis and would throw themselves to the ground at the slightest sign of trouble, leaving themselves screwed

There were more distinct, core gameplay elements than there are in BC2, so the way those basics could be combined was more varied and interesting.

Fun things to do in BF2:

    • [*:2yguvuk2]Trying to shoot choppers down using a TOW missile launcher (hard to do, but humiliating for the chopper crew)
[*:2yguvuk2]TOWing far away points using missile drop (always serious lolz when you TOW the tv station chopper from the hotel and kill 6 people who are waiting to get in it)
[*:2yguvuk2]Hunting choppers using concealed vehicle mounted guns. A lot of folk complained about the vehicle dominance, but I took it as a challenge. I'd spend hours every week just ruining the lives of Sharqi chopper whores.
      [*:2yguvuk2]TVing jets using the chopper
[*:2yguvuk2]Chopper battles that required good timing and deceptive dodging to avoid TVs
[*:2yguvuk2]Soloing choppers with the machine gun & tvs
[*:2yguvuk2]Speculatively strafing ground hotspots with jet machine guns
[*:2yguvuk2]Learning to dodge missiles in the F-35B and watching J-10 whores wear a confused exp

ression (I was good at stratorunning, even if I was a pretty bad jet pilot overall)
[*:2yguvuk2]Being a sneaky bugger and taking the enemy airfield while all of the enemies are too busy waiting for the vehicles to spawn
[*:2yguvuk2]Flying a C4 watermelon (crap MEC/Chinese choppers) into a tank/chopper/jet/whatever... there were just loads and loads of ways to make your own fun.

This is the only valid knock against BC2. Weapon balance should be more situation based.

Everything else doesn't apply because it's the old argument that boils down to basically 'BC2 is not BF2, so here's why it's worse'. It's a condensed infantry focused version of the Battlefield formula with destruction. It's not about taking a buggy and driving for 3 minutes to flank. That shit's awesome but it's not BC2.
