I've only played a handful of games of League but is it uncommon practice to play the mini map or is there just no advantage to it?

    Sorry, I don't really follow

By default League locks the camera onto your character and you can't scroll around. Ideally you want to unlock it and position it so you can see more of the 'danger area'. I know people who play with it locked and complain when they're top-side because they can't see people below them.

Oh I misunderstood. That's kinda nuts. I remember playing league with the camera detached like War3 back whenever that was (before dota2). I always heard this complaint from new comers to the "genre" I just never realized it was something that was actually supported or has actually become commonplace.

Trick is to play unlocked then quickly tap space whenever you need to get the camera centered on your player. Which is fairly rare.

I think it's exclusively a League thing. I don't think in Warcraft (and therefore DotA and DotA2) it's possible to lock the camera, and you wouldn't really want to because controlling more than one unit would be rather awkward (League's solution to this is limiting you to one extra unit you order with alt, which has no active abilities and rubber bands if it gets too far).

Finished Metro 2033 on a higher difficulty, bloody Hell that was exhausting! I came across a horrible bug on Outpost when my filters depleted to half what they were after I died and loaded the last checkpoint. Didn't notice it had happened until I got to the rooftop and realised I had 2 filters left! So I had to the level again and thankfully it didn't occur again. The same thing happened on Alley but this time I went back to the menu and loaded and they were back to the original amount again.

Now onto Last Light finally... I'm so excited and I just can't hide it... I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!!

Ahie, another offer, from Apple itself: 5 apps and 5 games for free to celebrate the 5 years of App Store. At least that's advertised on the Italian website, don't see in the US one, but maybe the link will work for you anyway:

    5 Years of App Store

Games: Superbrothers Swords & Sorcery, Infinity Blade 2, Where's My Water, Tiny Wings and Badland.

Been playing more Tomb Raider. I'm about halfway through now and think this game is brilliant! It starts out pretty slow, but quite quickly I realised it's much more Uncharted-esque with lots of exciting set-pieces and epic amounts of destructions. The gameplay isn't anything special but it's definitely as good as Uncharted's, so that's something to be reasonably happy with.

More importantly though, the characters, story, and atmosphere are all there. I really enjoy the world it's creating, quite Lost-esque in the sense that it simultaneously feels like an inviting island and a place that's hiding some dark shit. It's also got all the diaries and ancient documents and stuff to find that I love from games like Deus Ex and Dishonored.

Overall it's got a great sense of place and I'm really enjoying how they've made the island feel like an actual place you're traversing. Being able to revisit areas and see how everything fits together on a map makes a big difference. Impressed by how good it looks too, it's actually one of the best-looking games of this whole generation IMO. The wind, snow, and rain effects as you get further in are to die for.

Next I think I'll be trying Remember Me. I hadn't really heard of it coming out last month until just now, but already I've found that it's something you either love or hate. A Capcom-published game that's basically a sci-fi Uncharted with an emphasis on melee combat rather than weapons. Looks good in gameplay videos apart from some slightly hammy voice acting, and the music is sweet. Worth a shot before I take on the BioShock Infintie and The Last of Us.

Baldurs Gate. I've never played it. Wasn't interested in any of the steam sales so wondered off to GoG.com again.

Edit: I got the Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition on the steam sale, but I'm a Witcher fanboy and already own a solid boxed copy of the Witcher 2. Good job I have a fast internet connection now this thing is huge.

Just finished Fez today, pretty fun although the structure of the game leaves something to be desired early on, with so little direction you end up having to backtrack quite a bit to pick every cube up.

Started Tomb Raider, loving the execution so far. Very varied gameplay ideas too, and a tight experience to boot. Perfect balance achieved.

Metro LL is just... wow. I've never expected such a nice gameplay and so good visuals from that studio. I remember that they had lots of problems and it a lot of luck that the game was released...
