I have to quote myself from another thread here:

If you call blurry textures, a static world, invisible walls everywhere, alsmost no story, lots of backtracking, ridiculous quest system and worthless ending good then by all means, it's a fantastic game

And if your interested, I wrote a review here.

didn't notice any invisible walls, there was basically no backtracking because all the levels were loops (not arguing for or against this practice), quest system was the same as pretty much every other game? i'll give you that the ending feels a bit rushed, but definitely not so much so that the game is worse than gears of war by any means.

EDIT: reading through your review, you don't really seem to place your opinion in something concrete. you don't explain why the quest system is quote unquote ridiculous, for instance, and you seem really mad about the world not being fully destructible. seems like the only reason you really disliked the game was because you got hyped too much. i didn't have any expectations from this, other than it being post apocalyptic. granted, i probably wouldn't have bought it without an editor at release either way, but most of your criticism seems barely founded.

Sounds like we didn't play the same game then

But it's funny that you say my criticism seems barely founded and the only example you give of this is the one thing I didn't really elaborate on. I give multiple examples in that review of the things I mention.

I don't know how you play games, but I can't imagine you did not come across invisible walls. I suggest you try exploring your surrounding a bit. Oh wait, you can't, not really. Because everything is conveniently clipped, has locked doors, obstacles, etc. I didn't expect Fallout but at least give me some room.

I'm not talking about backtracking in the levels themselves. I'm talking about having to revisit most of them. The first time you go from A to B and the second time you go from B to A. That's basically the same thing if you ask me. Plus, all the driving areas. You drive those routes lots of times but there's not much there except the same respawning enemies. It was fun at first but after the tenth time it became a drag. Quest system isn't perhaps the best word. I mean the types of quests you get and the way quests progress.

I didn't expect a destructible world. Never said that. Doom 3 is 8 years ago and it had more physics then Rage. That's not hype, that's what we've come to expect from games.

i don't know man, i don't think you should necessarily expect anything from a game. unless you enjoy being furious and venting frustrations about it. i reserve that right to very few games, and certainly not new IPs being tried.

I'm gonna go with Sentura on this one.

I really enjoyed this game. But SpronyvanJohnson raises valid points about the static world, lack of story, to a lesser degree the quest system, and the ending. When compared to any other modern shooter, I didn't find any more invisible walls than usual, certainly no more than in CoD or GoW (admittedly I only got 1/2 way through GoW before I lost interest entirely). Blurry textures were a big issue initially, but the first patch resolved that. Story is definitely not a selling point, but there was enough of it to give the game context, and I've never seen a strong story line in an id Software game... except maybe Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I didn't like how the quest system wouldn't let me pick an active quest, so I always had to follow the beacon of whatever was the most recently active quest. I would definitely have liked to have seen more physics in the game, so that was a bit of a let down. The ending was also a bit meh, and felt slapped on.

Everything else about the game, was awesome IMO. The movement felt really solid and consistent, and no weird mouse filtering. I loved the sound and feel of the weapons in combat, they felt quite savage, the crossbow was definitely a hit with me. I generally don't like driving games and wasn't expecting to enjoy it in Rage, but I got into it, and the vehicle combat was also fun, if a bit repetitive. I also liked the salvage/crafting part of the game and I enjoyed having more options to choose from than I could carry or craft.

Serious Sam 3. The controls are floaty and hard to get used to, and it starts off on a super slow, un-serious sam foot. But once it got going (when I got a pistol finally and the suicide runners started spawning), it was just as fun as it's always been. Got to level three or four so far.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I never finished AC2 or even played AC1, so I'm pretty confused about the current events of the game. So far I've seen some futuristic techno shit under the Vatican, killed some goons, and carried a box of flowers for a woman. Alright I guess.

That's a valid point. But I think an even better point would be: "Don't believe the developers". I've seen countless of interviews in which they state Rage is going to be something different, it's a open world, you got freedom, etc. That's one of the reasons I got so frustrated with the invisible walls. Indeed, it doesn't have more invisible walls then any other modern shooter. But those games didn't market themselves as open world shooters.

Oh and the blurry textures are not solved. The patch addressed the issues with textures popping in. Everything up close in the game is still extremely blurry. Now I'm not a graphic whore, but when I look at something from a modern game, I would expect better texture quality then a game from the 90s right? Oh wait, don't expect anything, I'm doing it again

yes what a terrible game that was for it's bad, out of scale art. let's vote it 1.0 on metacritic since it, as a game with bad art assets, has absolutely no merits.

I am trying, trying to enjoy Rage, but haven't really been able to so far. Based on what I've played, the game could've really benefited from a linear mission structure. Roaming the "wasteland" aka meaningless driving hub is just a waste of time imho....

Stick to it though, the first few hours are pretty boring but then the game picks up and it's so much fun

I'm (also) playing fallout 3 right now. I'm not sure if it's my type of game; I find all the dialogues to be a bit annoying.

However, I'm not far into the game yet.

I used to play Rage, then I took an arrow in the knee... Actually all this Rage talk is going to make me start a 2nd playthrough.

Hey Cityy, what is it specifically that you don't like about the dialogue in Fallout 3?
