Playing HL2 again, or rather... lemme rephrase this, I'm having my girlfriend play HL2 while I watch, she has near to none shooter experience and it's really fun to watch her, you even learn a few things and if anything you learn how genious Valve is at level design, giving direction hints with color, light, etc.

Anyway, I also installed a gigantic (10gb) mod called cinematic Mod 11, and god damn it makes the game look amazing. (If you make sure you turn the hilarious characters off)

All the textures are really sharp, and some of the levels were pimped up a bit. (But left intact and they all respect valve's vision)

"But left intact and they all respect valve's vision"

I wouldn´t say they stayed true to the original concerning player guidance... at all. 8|

Erm... ok, can you backup that with some kind of argument? Have you played it?

We're 4 hours in and so far the levels are exactly like the valve's ones. (Those screens I posted previously are the "stronger" ones, where they went a bit crazy with changes)

Most of the changes throughout the game are just filling the scenes with more stuff, like ferns, little bushes, more trees and buildings in the background, more rubble, etc. To make the experience visually richer, even the lighting is MUCH better, I think they rebaked all the levels with more light bounces; but the gameplay areas and guideance are pretty intact.

My bad, should´ve explained it better. I was referring to those screens. Since you posted those specific ones I assumed you used them to back your claim and I found that odd since the latter one, lighting wise, looks nothing like the original. It definitely does not function the same way and leads your eyes nowhere, it´s a mess. The original is definitely the better one, even without all the eye candy.

If the rest is as good as you say... well, a job well done then I´d say But that last screen does not do it justice... Feel free to disagree with me though.

yeah fair enough, I don't know why they decided to go so overboard on that that level either, so far everything was kept the same feeling from the original. Here's hoping it was the only time they decided to do that.

What do you suggest, that they MAKE IT ADJUSTABLE?!

THINK OF THE RESOURCES THEY WOULD HAVE TO ALLOCATE.

    Creation of a FoV spinner:

One project manager to create the task, a producer to approve, a lead to assign the task, a ui artist / programmer to create it, a lead to sign it off, a in-house and EA Q&A to test it, 3 bugs reported, bugs are assigned to 50 random people before they finally land to the correct guy, guy stops his work for a whole afternoon to fix a tiny reported bug and reports fixed, producer/lead resend to a in-house and EA Q&A tests it again, and finally the leads / producers sign it off.

Whatever happened to get shit done man?

Fuck now I wanna go back and play Banjo. Fuck those two were good goddamn games. Rare at the absolute top of their game, imo.

Just finished Syndicate (SP). It's unpolished and feels rushed but the shooting and breaching is rewarding as fuck and quite challenging on hard difficulty (it gets a bit tedious sometimes though). It's a real 3 out of 5 game.

Oh, and by the way; don't get me started on the story. It's so bad in so many ways...

I tried both Syndicate and Darkness II but both have such extremely low fov that I found them unplayable. It isn't even normally the kind of thing that effects me, but Darkness II especially seems to limit you to like 40-50 fov in some moments like when you're at the penthouse, and I have to stop playing to avoid throwing up. Syndicate wasn't as bad but was still too bad to be enjoyable.

I got used to Syndicate's fov after half an hour or so. The DART overlay really helps to keep things acceptable. I found that what you lack in peripheral vision is counteracted by the boost in visibility that the DART overlay mode provides.

so apparently i played cod: mw2 on a hacked server, instantly making me lvl 70. this leaves me with almost no challenge. lucky for me, i only play this game with 3 friends (4 if you add my gf who's getting ridiculously skilled) so it lost little replay value to me, but still. lot's of 12 year old aimbot users... too bad, because it's a solid game. also, wtf man, no zombie mode??? fuck!
