I think the main problem with third-party packs is they do change the style to suit their own intentions, whereas obviously the official pack will completely match the original art direction. I don't like the idea of playing through the game and the pack creators not realising a certain texture they modified extensively looks stupid in certain places where it's used.

Bam. This is the reason why I rarely ever use custom high res packs as they tend to never have the same "feel" as the originals.

Fuck yes. I want all of it and I want it now, especially the special magic combinations, vampire stuff, graphical stuff, and CRAB BATTLE. It's incredible that somehow in a single week of internal development of people just doing what they want, the developers managed to create more additions to the base game than some games get in numbered sequel releases.

About the whole mods wrecking the style of an area, this is one of the worst culprites.

Whiterun is meant to be a desolate hill top, not a bloody forest. The whole point in whiterun is to look like this:

Not everyone is a fan of desolate areas ... like myself. Hell, I even published a mod that adds trees in and around Whiterun.

    Deal with it

And currently I am looking into making a mod that makes survival in the Wilderness harder. Bear traps left behind by hunters everywhere, tougher hostile animals, etc. Sure, there are mods like that already but I want it my way.

fallout would look so much better with scores of pine forests. abandoned research labs or beached ships? pine forests don't give fucks, they'll grow anywhere.

I think it's all good as long as people understand what they're downloading. As established earlier in the thread, some people want the art direction to be as the game's designers intended — they don't want fans making decisions about which areas should be more lush, which should have a strikingly different look, etc. Then there are those who're totally OK with this.

As long as the makers of HD packs are clear about whether they're been faithful or not it's fine IMO. :derp:

Steam says I have played 69 hours and I feel like I am done with this game. I finished the main quest, imperial, thieves guild, mages guild, dark brotherhood, companions, not sure what other quest lines are there. Bethesda definitely has some of the best environmental storytelling around, as well as some of the best visual areas of interest that draw you into an area for no other reason than because it looks cool. I went with heavy armor / unarmed and felt that I tapped out very early in the game with the dragon armor and +melee enchant. There might be a few standout upgrades here and there but I got used to not finding any so I just stopped looting most enemies and containers. I was also a bit disappointed with the unarmed route since you seem to miss out on many things in the game like applying potions to your weapon (you can't douse your fists with a potion?), and some of the useful perks are at the end of talent trees where you'd have to waste points on perks you can't even use (like creating more powerful poisons). Overall though, I would say it's their best outing yet (although it could have used a pint-sized-slasher-esque moment or two). Oh, and the horses sucked and I never used them

I read they almost didn't even include horses because it messed with the flow and exploration of the game. Should I not use them when I play? :derp:

If there's anything good about them, it's they will help you in combat up to a certain extent (if they get hurt too badly they leave). Otherwise, yeah they just really hurt the flow of the game. Getting on/off feels really janky and slow, they don't have much more stamina than the player, they can't take big drops or slide down massive hills as shortcuts

You're always welcome to try the horses, but if there was a way to get one without paying.. that is the way to go. There's just not enough of a difference or benefit like there is in Red Dead Redemption.

I read somewhere that they specifically didn't put enough resources in the horses because they found it broke the experience of the player and exploration.

Which is a shame, really, if you could fight on horseback and at least interact with stuff on your reach (speak to NPCs, pick up ingredients) it would have been so much more fun.

But then I think they let it in so the modders can improve on that, so there is hope.

Anyway me playing (Wolf Queen quest spoilers) recorded the video for a friend to see what the game is about:

...but they still included fast travel?
