    Portfolio URL:

Posting here for critique and advice.

I am a graphic designer and I have been interested in the gaming industry for a while. I would like a change of career from general graphics production to being an environment artist.

My case is a bit weird though - instead of jumping in and working on building & texturing environments for game mod teams I decided to learn game development from scratch. For the past 6 years or so I've been working through programming & graphic design on a 2D game engine. All the way from writing a program for Windows to using DirectX, collision detection, physics and AI, photo-realistic tiling textures, sprites with backgrounds erased in photoshop, pixel art, etc. My ideal job in the gaming industry would therefore involve wearing multiple hats - working on some coding projects, graphics projects, 3D art, capturing photo references, etc. This will probably require a relatively small team, because large teams want you to specialize.

The portfolio is 99% done, what's left is a piece of artwork on the home page and some photos on the about page. There is a broken image on the home page that serves as placeholder for now.

Yeah, the portfolio itself is very small and you should move away from the compact designs you've done, and have it go from top to bottom of the page, probably with a fixed width (most people do that). The portfolio should showcase all your work at once, with little to no need of navigating multiple pages. Put all your stuff on one page, separating your work with headers (3D under one, photography under another, etc).

That should improve your portfolio quite a bit. This isn't set in stone, as it's just my personal recommendations
